I am one week out today and let me tell you, Last Tuesday was the scariest day of my life! It took lots of meds and deep breaths  to keep me calm. I had a wonderful pre op nursing staff that helped keep me calm. I too was not actually anxious about the procedure but more so the unknowns that were about to come with it.  Little piece of advice, when you are being wheeled down for the operation think about something wonderful, rid your mind of any and all negative thoughts, I was unable to do that and when I went under I was in a panic. and when I came out I was in a panic. They had to re-sedate me and bring me out of it a lot slower than they usually do. I don't remember anything from the first two days I was in the hospital.

As for the last week, There is not a whole bunch of pain, I don't think. I haven't been on pain killers since I was in the hospital. The incisions are not painful at all. They are just kind of there. The inside doesn't hurt until i put something in it. I don't know if that is supposed to happen or not. I have been on a full liquid diet since surgery and will continue to be for another week. It hurts to drink my protein, water, SF pudding and SF jell-o. I am hoping this gets easier as the time goes on because it is really just ******g me off. There are also some random pains that I get occasionally, nothing major but enough. . . There have been several times that I have questioned why I had this surgery and I have to keep reminding myself that in a month or two all this pain will go away and things will get easier. I come on OH to follow people who are farther in the process then me because they give me the inspiration that I need to keep going.

You will do just fine. Remember, Positive thoughts and support and a little bit of time.

Good luck to you!

Thanks so much - it helps to know I'm not alone!

I learned that I have issues with anxiety, especially when it comes to my health.  It's just one of those things that puts my nerves on edge.  Having surgery caused me several panic attacks that ultimately brought me to the ER.  NO FUN!!!  They prescribed Ativan, which helped a lot for the short term.  For long term, I found a counselor to help me through my emotions.  I would definitely recommend it.
