What should I eat? :)

So, I'm trying to ramp up my weight loss as I believe it's slowing down.  Does anyone have any go to high protein, low calorie ideas/recipes/etc?

I'm exercising more, but the closer I get to goal the more fearful I become that the weight loss will just stop.  I don't think it's a very rational fear, but I'd like to boost my protein and keep calories the same so I welcome any suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

I had surgery 10-3-12 and started at 203 lb. I weigh 136.5 today. I think you are doing fantastic. Your weight loss will slow as you get closer to goal. That is normal. You said you would like to boost protein. How much protein are you taking in each day?

70-85g.  I'd like to get it closer to 100g.  I'm not, in any way, complaining about my weight loss.  I'm really happy with it.  I just want to maximize it, especially as it slows down.

The way to do that is to increase the protein without increasing the calories greatly. Days when I have been able to get my protein in the 92-100 range I plan one protein shake plus 3-4 small protein meals for the day consisting of albacore tuna packed in water, eggs, plain greek yogurt, sashimi (no rice), baked, poached or grilled fish. Things like that.

Honestly, the easiest thing to do to boost protein is to add an extra shake...it's relatively low cal and assuming you have a decent powder, low carb as well. You can either do it as a mid day snack or a bedtime one, think protein hot cocoa or something of the like.

I'm still in the pre-op stage, but I've been playing around with food ideas for afterward.  A couple of weeks ago I made a pesto spread with soybeans (edamame), which are high protein.  I buy the soybeans shelled & frozen, so I thawed them but didn't cook them.  I threw them in the food processor (a blender is probably fine, too) with fresh basil, garlic, some grated fresh parmesan, pine nuts, olive oil & lemon juice.  I used it in several ways.  I ate it plain with gluten-free crackers, and spread it warm on top of a piece of grilled salmon.  My husband used it as a spread on a turkey sandwich.  I also thinned it with some chicken broth, added some leftover chopped grilled chicken, and served it on top of pasta.  I know that carbs are very limited post-surgery, so not all of these options may work for you.  But it's a flexible, high flavor spread that is definitely extra protein & low calorie.  If I had cooked the soybeans for a few minutes in boiling water, I think the spread would have been even creamier, so I may try that next time.

Also, I hate the texture of cottage cheese, but I run it through the food processor with other flavorings so that it's smooth.  I've used roasted red peppers, garlic, & oregano to use as a veggie dip or in a sandwich, and apple pie spice or cinnamon & a little honey for a sweet version that I eat by itself.

Thanks!  I love cottage cheese.  That spread is a really interesting idea :)
