Hi Carmelita,

I am on the short acting stuff.  I assumed when it wore off that I would be looking to eat everything under the sun at night, but it isn't like that.  I am weird with stimulants though.  Before Vsg, I would drink gallons of caffeinated coffee everyday.  That was really tough to give up for surgery, but once I detoxed I appreciated not having the heart palpitations that went along with the caffeine.  If I drank coffee past 11 a.m. I would always have trouble sleeping.  This is why when the doc wanted to put me on the extended release that I wanted to talk short acting.  Maybe over the summer when I am not with kids I will try the extended stuff, but cranky sleep deprived teachers are not good for kids.

I was diagnosed as a kid- second one in my school.  My younger sister was the first.  My father felt that the medicine would spur a drug addiction as an adult so he refused treatment.  Back then it was very new and there was less data on the effects of the medicines.  Fortunately for me, I do great in school even though the attention was compromised- my sister is a hot mess though.  She was always worse though.

I am well schooled on ADHD, and even took a grad class on it where the final 20 page paper was on the differences between girls/boys.  The book you mentioned is a good read :)

The cancer prescriptions come and go, and usually the ones that mess with me the most are antibiotics.  Every time I have an excision done and despite a ton of antibiotics it gets infected and it takes a long time to get it to clear up.  The topical treatments for the most part only make me feel like I have a sunburn and make sleeping a little difficult due to the discomfort.  Pain medication, on the rare times I would actually take it, kills the eating too.

No joke about dealing with the vsg until we are pushing up daisies!  Thank you for your post- you always have good stuff to say!
