Lapband to VSG revision patients will not lose a lot of weight..fact or fiction
I just got my revision lap band to Vsg on March 22, 2013. After a two week preop optifast diet I ended up losing 15lbs. Which brought me to 333. I'm home now taking in protein ok. I was on YT and I saw a video by a doctor who said that revision patients don't lose as fast or much as those who never had surgery. Is this true? I need to hear from those who had the revision.
It can be true. It depends on how much you lost with the band. But, you will lose and you won't be in pain. Most band to sleeve revisions I know get to goal. It just might be a little slower. So much goes into how fast/much you lose it is such and individual thing. I will tell you this, you will love your sleeve and the band will be a distant nightmare.

I'm band to sleeve revision and I don't think my weight loss is that slow. Maybe slower than other "virgin" sleeves but I was considered a light weight at surgery. I was 234 at surgery and now I'm 172 almost 6 months later. I'm very close to my first goal and I'm doing great. I think for anyone the closer you get to goal the harder it gets but so far I'm still losing 2 lbs a week. Eating with the band and eating with the sleeve are two entirely different animals. I ate around my band allll the time but now with the sleeve I don't because I am motivated to lose my weight and keep it off. You have to be prepared to change your habits and lifestyle for the better and I think I lost sight of that with the band. That is my personal opinion. Feel free to pm me with any questions you might have.

Hi,
I am a band to sleeve revision. Had the band for 5 years and the sleeve for 5 years. I did lose slower with the second surgery but I had a high BMI to start with.
340/165-167/196 now and working my way back down!

People say that about all revisions... that they don't lose as fast. It kind of just depends really.
Like I know someone whose band was killing her so she had it taken out and was revised to a sleeve. She was a goal. She didn't lose much at all. (Thank goodness!) If they did a study of revisions, someone like her would definitely skew the results.
But other people lose a ton. And some people need to lose a ton but don't.
If you lost well with the band but then it gave you trouble and you've gained all your weight back, then I think you will be like someone who never had surgery and lose similar to someone who never had surgery. But, if you only gained half of it back, you might be like someone who had surgery and it's a few months out and maybe you won't have that big loss in the beginning that the virgin surgeries have. But you'd still lose and still lose it all.
If you didn't lose well, then whatever caused that could cause slow or poor weight loss with the revision.
There are a lot of things about WLS that are kind of predictable, but I don't think this is one of them. Revision results are all over the map.
Good luck to you though!
