Lapband to VSG revision patients will not lose a lot of weight..fact or fiction
I had my Lap Band in 2008 lost 70 had complications of chronic pain and vomiting after 1 1/2 yrs gained it all back and had it removed 2/2012 then gained 15 pounds more to be at my highest weight. I am scheduled to have my Sleeve 4/15/21013, so it has been 2 1/2 years since I had all fill removed from band and 1 year 2 months since band removed. Would you consider me a to be a Virgin Sleeve or a Band Revision to Sleeve as mentioned above??
That's a hard question. My answers are not based on science, but just my own observations. I got my LapBand in 2008, weighing in over 260 lbs. (I am only 5'2"). With the band, I lost down to 155 lbs. ALMOST to my goal, but then had some issues, lots of them. Like you, I started eating around the band, just to be able to eat most of the time. I ended up gaining about 50 pounds back. I lost some of that by exercising and dieting when my band allowed me to eat meat.
When I went in for my revision to the sleeve last year, I was weighing in around 195 or so. This week is a my year sleeve-a-versary. I have only lost about 20 pounds since surgery. Some of it my fault, and some of it,....who knows?? My theory is that my body was so used to eating very little food, that my metabolism turned super sluggish. The part that is my fault, is that I was now able to eat normal. I could have bread, pasta, french fries, and all other kind of high carb stuff that my band wouldn't let me get near. After 4 years of being without, I stupidly allowed myself to sample it all again. I allowed all of the bad foods back in, so yeah....slow weightloss is a lot my fault.
You can eat around the sleeve just as easily as you can the band. So, be careful. There are many successful revisions that have kicked ass......I hope you are one of them!
Last thing, I want to say is....even though I lose weight slowly and until recently, didn't comply with eating, like I should, I have no regrets. The sleeve is SUCH A RELIEF. Seriously. I feel normal again!
