Pre-Op Gastritis... o__O
Hey guys,
So I'm freaking out a bit and here's why. I've started having random stomach pains usually 2-3 hours after eating. It's happened once 2 weeks ago and then again this last Friday. The pain is the worst pain I have ever had and is in the middle of my stomach above my belly button and below my chest. It usually feels better after I make myself throw up. This last Friday was enough to send me to the ER. They did blood work and everything came out fine, but the doctor told me to follow up with a gastric specialist because it could be an ulcer. He has me on high dose pepcid 2x a day.
So here's where my worrying comes into play. I am still pre-op. I have never had these pains before I started the 1200 calorie high lean protein and low carb diet to lose my 10% of weight to get a surgery date. Could my change in diet have something to do with this? Will this affect me getting a sleeve? Could it just be stress? Am I over thinking things? =__=
I don't know. BUT I too am presurg and for the first time in my life I started getting deep pain like this as well once or twice a week for 3 weeks running. I called my PCP and she ordered all the tests since she knows I'm nearing the end of my wait and we didn't want my surgery to be delayed if we could be proactive. Now, I am not on quite the same high protein low carb prep that you are on (yet) but they sent me for an endoscopy (minor gastritis) and an in depth gall bladder US. I've only lost 12 pounds during my insurance waiting period but my doc thought it might be the GB because of the depth and location of the pain. You might look into getting a(nother) GB US if you haven't had one in a while. Good luck. BTW - I've eliminated pretty much all the triggers (for me it was anything garlicky, or spicy, or red wine - boo!) and things are much better now. But, it was so bad that I would take serious pain killers for it and cry for my husband to take the baby out of my arms so I wouldn't drop him. I feel your pain. Almost exactly.

How odd! After the first attack, I actually did have an ultrasound of my gallbladder (all the woman in my family have lost theres at some point, so I thought that was it) but the results were fine. No gallstones at all. My blood work showed the same. I'm with you there, I do NOT want this interfering with my surgery after I've worked so hard to lose the 10%! Hopefully you can find out what it is and I can too! >__
