What Have You Done for You Today?
Great choices! As for the gym, what about just some basic exercises at home and around the neighborhood just to get you pointed in the right direction. Get your body moving then the whole singing up for the gym thing won't seem like such a feat. Going to the gym with a partner is definetly much better. Have you considered having a few sessions with a trainer to make sure you are doing things correctly?
I first wanted to say that I read your posts and replies and you are extremely helpful with ideas and hints with everything. I don't always have time to respond but I follow as much as possible.
That being said, I have been doing extra stuff at home, power walk outside then work out video or just work out on my own with some crunches leg lifts etc. I started that because before I was doing nothing. Occasionally walking. Now I have a friend who is 5yrs or so post RNY and is WAY off track- she got pregnant 9 months post and has been off since. Now she wants to get back on track and we agreed to help eachother out. Shes more of a difficult person with these things so I am not sure how long she will last BUT I am willing to help. We are agreeing to certin nights at the gym together. I just need to feel more comfortable first, just how I am. Once we go together a few times I am sure to break my "im a chicken' excuse and go alone. I would love to do the trainer but I am poor for one BUT luckily I know 2 people, or is it 3, that do personal training and have already offered to help when I told them about my surgery. So I am set if I feel I am not in control at the gym.
Thanks for the help, encouragement ,and advice!
So that's really good, you are getting into it and having someone who has also had WLS will help because you can nag each other on not only exercise but eating right and nutrition. As for the training, knowing people is the best because they know you and your personality better and can point you in the right direction. Some gyms frown on bringing in outside trainers without permission so check with them or make it look like you guys are working out together. Also when you sign up, use your newness as a negotiating tactic. Many times gyms will give up 1 to 3 sessions in the hopes that you will continue to use their trainers. When they throw out the price just ask them if that includes any time with a trainer and if they say no ask if they will throw it in. Many will, if they won't don't be afraid to try the next gym down the road. There is a lot of competition for your your monthly gym money so you are in the drivers seat. Look around and see if you have a Planet Fitness nearby. I think they have a no committment $10/mo deal right now. Planet Fitness tends to be a younger crowd, but if I remember correclty you are younger so it might be good for you (and can't hurt on the dating front either now can it?)
I am down to 12 days until Graduation...so even though I was up late doing homework (I hate finance btw), I got up and went to the gym this morning, all my days that start with the gym are better. Never thought that would come out of my mouth! Protein shake on the way to the gym, protein oatmeal for breakfast. I think I am going to book myself a graduation massage!
Also sending the deposit for our new townhouse which we are secretly moving into in 10 weeks in another state...that and all the weight I've (and my hubby) lost should make for a pretty darn good surprise for all my family/friends.

Thank You for this Post.. Today I got up and went to my Water Aerobics class at the gym this morning.. I did 45 minutes and then sat in the hot tub and did that ever feel good.. I also came home and baked some pork chops in the oven and will have 4oz of Pork Chops with some Vegetables for my dinner tonight at work.. I am now energized for the day and will be leaving here shortly for work.. ( I work 3-11 ) I also logged all my food on MFP as I do everyday.. I leave it open until I get home from work incase something changes which it rarely does, and then I add my water intake when I get home.. Now I can just hope that work goes ok.. and it will be a good day for me.. Thanks again for this post.. What a great way to reflect on what you did for YOURSELF today !!
