What Have You Done for You Today?
I think its important. We spend so much time in our jobs and making sure we keep our heads above water and we want this stuff to be on auto pilot all the time. I think auto pilot is dangerous and I think it is good at least once a day to do a gut check to make sure we are on track, then we never look down at the scale and go wholly crap how did I put on 25 lbs!?!?!?
I'm struggling on the exercise front. I joined a fancy expensive gym, and bought a zone training heart monitor watch, but have not worked out for 2 weeks. My job has been too crazy (I work in high tech sales). I am not finding time to exercise, and i am so down about it. Everyday I say, "Today I will go", and it never happens...I will try to go tonight, but I have a 2 year old and 4 year old...they unfortunately are going to bed too late at night (like 10pm!), and my husband and I are working on trying to get them to calm down and go to sleep....so by the time 10pm comes around I am too tired to go. The mornings I am too tired, too. So, I write this to say, "I will try"! I also am behind on my water and protein...it is 4:15pm.
I understand that struggle all too well. I am a consultant and I am fortunate enough right now to have a client that allows me to work at home, so I have plenty of time to get to the gym and run and still get 50 hours a week in. My kids are older so they require minimal attention from me and I actually have my 15 year old running with me at night and she has lost weight because of it. 2 year old is tough.
I hate to sound like all the ******** who always said this to me, but I hate to admit they were right, you have to MAKE the time. Maybe the gym is not where you need to be right now for exercise. Maybe something like P90X videos or Jillian Michaels shred programs that you can do on your living room floor. The key is to get some. How about putting your 2yr old in a speed stroller and walking around the block a couple times. Quality time with the kid and some exercise?
I think the key to success is finding a pattern that works and I know all too well in the tech world having any kind of normal routine is almost impossible.
Yeah, the tech world is insane...been working in it for 18 years....I currently work from home in Georgia for a San Francisco mobile security software start-up (YIKES - insanity), so I work all night long sometimes! I actually have TWO babies - a 2 year old boy and a 4 year old girl - who are in full time daycare. Life is insane...I am pulled in 8,000 different directions every day (part of why and how I got so obese). My husband works full time at a crazy job, too, he works in Live Television (cable). We are in a small condo and no room in front of the TV to do any workout videos, but I do have a nice recumbent bike. My problem is I need to sleep earlier, and wake up earlier and try the gym in the morning...it is tough! In a way, sadly, I look forward to the time when my babies are much more self sufficient!
