Anyone Eating Paleo or Primal????

As I get closer to my goal and have increased my workout and exercise regiment I am considering switching from the atkins style low carb diet I currently have to the paleo or primal (I understand there is a difference) lifestyle with a focus still on protein and lower carbs. Based on the little bit of research I have done so far, it seems like you get a lot more nutrition from this type of eating.

For those of you about to hate, hold up for a sec. I am not going against the establishment here. It works great I have lost almost 150lbs doing exactly what everyone here preaches. I am 50lbs away from my personal goal but I am also trying to gain muscle so I expect this next 50 lbs of fat to take me a year to lose because I would like to be putting on a lb of muscle every two weeks or so.

Are any of you that are farther out eating paleo/primal versus low carb? What has your experience been?

Yep! Starting doing paleo about two months ago and in the first month I lost 10lbs (below my lowest) and now I've been maintaining. I love love love it. Never felt better in my life.

In the past month, I've really increased my strength training efforts and I've still maintained my weight. I just can't say enough good things about it. And since your carbs are coming from veggies mostly and some fruits, I am still able to keep my carbs low. I started out with the Whole30 and It Starts With Food and really continue that lifestyle with just a few little modifications.

I can't say enough good things about it. Good luck!

Are you in maintenance or still in weight loss?

I was in weight loss when I started and sometimes still think I would like to lose another 5lbs, but I think that strength training will take care of that 5lbs of fat/excess skin/things that need to be toned and turn it into muscle. So, now, I'm in maintenance.

I am doing Primal.  I just didn't want to give up my cream with my coffee and having cheese as a snack.  LOL  I was out of town all last week for my grandfather's funeral and at the mercy of relatives I stayed with.  Needless to say, I wasn't eating Primal and OMG, I feel the difference.  I gained 7 pounds in ONE WEEK!!  I know a lot of it is water weight, but sheesh......I am back to my Primal and intermittent fasting today.  Hoping those extra pounds come off just as quickly, so I can get back to logging lower  numbers on my scale!

What exactly is the difference between primal or paleo?

This is not comprehensive by any means, but touches on some of the differences:

Their approach to fats is a big difference.

Thank you for your posts Keith....your research has peaked my interest in paleo/primal.....I do rely on dairy for alot of my protein, but have been prepared to give up grains...so I need to do my own research, and see where I can fall.  I'm not looking to muscle up, so perhaps tweaking things will work for me...however, I am still pretty fresh out, so will prepare myself for when I get to maintenance mode.

You inspire many, and wish you the best of everything!
