Juice fast - anyone done this?
Crossfit scares me too.I just looked it up earlier today. My stint with the trainer is ending in July, I can sign up for a long time and even probably will, but only one or two days a week vs. four. Figured with summer, I'll be more active in general and I've used him to get my weight down and all my muscles toned, now I have to do some stuff on my own so in the future i'm not so reliant on him for my motivation and consistency. How did you like kick boxing? One of the trainers I get some times is a kickboxer, so one day the entire time he taught me how to block and hit. It was awesome.
I can send you my nutritionist's plan she sent me if you want. Just reduce it by 75% or whatever you need to, to get it down to the number of calories you eat. Also I found that when I restrict TOO much (too few calories), I stall on weight loss as well. It's a ***** finding the right spot. I have to quit lurking on the bathroom scale every day, otherwise it'll make me crazy. One day down a pound, the next day up .5lb, down .1, up .3....you know the routine.
Yes sometimes my healthy fat is just the oil I cook with or put on my salad. But I'm going to trust it's the right thing to do and helps my body in some way. Sometimes I just have a TBS of avacado, or some nuts. I try to mix it up, have a bit of all the options around. I'm not perfect at it, but I'd say 90% of the time I'm doing like 90% of what I'm supposed to be doing. Then I sit on the deck and enjoy a Mojito, dammit :)
Please do send me your plan. That would be great. Thanks!
I also eat avocado or gua****asionally. I'd also say I'm about 90% compliant with wine being my drink of choice :)
I loved kickboxing. Best workout I've ever done because it was so fun, and it didn't feel like exercise at all. I loved my bruised hands & feet. I did it up until I was a little over 7 months pregnant (I had an extraordinary high kick bc of the relaxin****il I started having preterm labor signs when doing intense workouts. I'd like to get back into it, but I need to find a new trainer since my old class stopped.
Hmmm...maybe i'll try it. One of my original goals when I started training, I told the guy I wanted to look like a boxer :) I may as well do some boxing then. I'll take advantage of the one trainer who also trains people at a kickboxing studio, see if he can ease me into it, see if I like it.
Let me know your email address and I'll send you the food plan. Or e-me datachick10 at hotmail.com
I always put dense protein first though, always will. My body does not need a break from it, it thrives on it. Pound for pound, broccoli has only like 12 grams of protein while beef has around 100, so I personally wouldn't even count on veggies for protein. But that's just me and my needs, you know best how you feel and what you're looking to accomplish. Good luck with your decision, let us know if you do and share some good juicing recipes!
A good movie to see would be "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead," which streams on Netflix. It's all about juicing. I dabbled with raw foods and the vegan diet before surgery. After a lot of research I did a juice fast at home for two weeks. Here's my experience:
1. Our bariatric surgeons and doctors in general have almost zero nutrition schooling in medical school. As per a famous bariatric surgeon once said (Dr. Garth Davis in TX), the idea that we need X amount of protein per day is bogus. It came out of thin air. The only people who become protein deficient are those poor kids you see in photos from Africa. Many confuse protein deficiency with iron deficiency. We simply need to eat real foods and the protein thing sorts itself out. I'm not counting those folks who JUST had surgery.
2. Animal protein is difficult to digest, and perhaps that's why we're not so hungry afterwards. It also rots in our gut and our system needs a "break" sometimes. When I did the juice fast, I technically wasn't getting any fiber, right? But I was "going" to the bathroom several times per day, getting rid of things that were very scary, very black, and very stinky. That stuff lived in my intestines for years before I finally gave my body a chance to get rid of it.
3. I stopped all cravings at about day three, and had more energy than I knew what to do with. And I mean productive energy, not the caffeine kind. I was happy. I was busy, and slept like a baby. I never felt so rested. My skin cleared up, my eyes were bright, and I had no body odor.
4. I lost 15 pounds in two weeks.
5. One downfall: Now, this was before surgery, so I don't know how I'd react now. But I did gain those pounds back once I started to eat food again. But before surgery I was able to eat just about anything I could get my paws on. Perhaps things would be different now.
Good luck. Listen to your intuition and do the research. The info out there is pretty amazing. Also, juice it all yourself. Pasteurized juices are processed and lack the enzymes we need for good digestion. Spinach is great because it's sweet. Add an apple or citrus for sweetness. Celery and cucumber are great for hydration.
Yeah that's a great movie. I used to juice a lot, and watching that movie just reinforced why. I love to juice, love the mechanics of it, the pile of veg I have in my special bin in the fridge. I might try incorporating some in again, but just a little. Don't know if you'll find too much sugar like I did, but you'll find out. Odwalla has unpasturized juices, just make sure you drink them before they expire. When I made my own, I used apple and lemon wedge to take the edge off the kale and beets :) Some of those juice places have a shot of wheatgrass--try that! Green things are the best way to go!
I do a juice of spinach, carrots, cucumber, lemon and apple every morning! I am way into maintenance and I just felt that my protein heavy diet was not good for me in the long run. So about 4 months ago, I dropped whey shakes in favor of plant based shakes and started adding a large juice a day. Over all my digestion has improved immensely and I feel more energetic. I still have so much restriction I could not possibly eat a "well balanced" diet. This was the only way I could see to get in some good nutrition. And I haven't gained any weight at all. Honestly, I don't think many of us got fat from too much produce. Now I don't think I'd personally be interested in a complete juice fast, but once a day is good for me. I'm pooping regularly again. That's a plus.
