What Have You Done for YOU Lately?
Keith,
Thank you for making this simple plan, I was feeling so overwhelmed with the information that I actually fell a couple of times into old habits which I realize were coping mechanisms. The NUT at my surgeons office havent been helpful, I watch this show that show they tell you to do something else, so much conflicting info everywhere and I just want to be successful and started to feel like a failure because I couldn't sort out all the info from all kinds of sources. I want to thank you for that.

Glad I could help. Feel free to ask when you have any questions and doubts. This is not a complicated process but it has been complicated by doctors and patients alike. There is a LOT of information out there and you have to evaluate everything you read and hear and find something to back it up. Some of the info is good, some of it not so much. You have to find what makes sense for you, but if it seems overly complicated it probably is not going to work out for you. Keep the program simple, simplify your life and try to get on a repeatable schedule. Life will throw you curve balls but if you keep it simple its very easy to get right back on track. Success is the end of a long path of failures so if you feel like a failure you are probably doing something right. Now if you were failing and feeling like a success, I would be worried.
Re-tweaking my food plan to reset my weight loss!
I'm going to schedule a facial for tomorrow! I have off from work and I have a gift card to my spa. Woot woot!
I am planning my exercise for the 4-day weekend! I will definitely be going to the gym, riding my bike and maybe talk my hubby into going for a hike somewhere!
I got a new heart rate monitor with a lot more data/tracking info that connects to a program on line. Right now I'm reading all of the instructions and getting it set up. I'm going to use it today. I LOVE the numbers!
I've been training for my first 5K which is in mid-June. I'm going to check out a park nearby and try some trail running. Jogging on the treadmill is more than boring, I need to try other things....so I'm going to do that.
Circuit training 4x this week.
Memorial Day: My training studio is only working for a half-day, which means I would miss my workout. In the old days, that'd be ok with me as avoiding discomfort/any type of work was apparently one of my main goals in life. However, last night I emailed my trainer and said I could come in as early as 6 am if they had an open slot with him or any other trainer. Wow, never thought I'd do that in a million years. So Monday I'll be at the studio bright and early at 6:30.
Yesterday I registered for a 5k Foam Run (5k + fun obstacles) with a bunch of people at my training studio whom I don't even know. Scary for me, but I'm gonna do it.
Yesterday I changed my goal weight to 140 lbs, down from my original "in-case-I-want-to-settle" 150 lbs. My character has changed throughout this process: I won't settle any more.
I sit in the hot tub every night :) And got a massage a few days ago :)
Thanks for the post!
WOW! Sounds great! Your first 5K is exciting. I just finished my 2nd this past Saturday. My first was the color run which I assume is similar in fun level to the foam run. I am signed up for my 3rd 5k for next weekend. If you have not been running on the road, I would suggest you do the rest of your training until your 5k, outside on the sidewalk/street. Trail running is great but make sure you have the right shoes for it, it makes a big difference. You don't want to strain your ankles. Running on the road is much different than on the treadmill so don't be surprised if you are worn out running only half as much as you do on the treadmill. I could do an hour on the treadmill and the first time I hit the road I could only do 15 mins. I was shocked.
Yeah I ran on the high school track a coupla weeks ago, was doing 2 mi in the studio but only made it around the track three times before I had to walk. Outside = I found out the hard way like you did, we have to provide our own forward momentum, so yeah it sucks. Also I started out too fast I think, so I'm going to use the HR monitor to stay in range so I don't tire so quickly. Thanks for the tip on trail running shoes, I was just going to use my normal running sneakers but I'll look into getting the proper footgear. Yesterday I met with a buddy I haven't seen for a while, turns out she used to do trail running years ago and would love to get together with me to do some. Yay!

I'm sticking to working out 3 days this week and also started strength training with my legs (which I have not done post-op, have focused all strength training on my upper body). Got a new job (a new second job that is) solely to assist in payment of my plastic surgery which is scheduled on September 3rd.
And another thing, this is so embarrassing to me for some reason, I'm getting headshots done for a modeling agency. A few people suggested I try modeling and a photographer I ran into booked me for a shoot later this summer posing as a woman from the 1920s. So I thought, what the hey, I'll give it a shot. (although technically if modeling works out it would be my third job, not sure how I'll fit it in with my 3 kids and college on top of it!)
