Just Hit a Home Run - Recipe Attempt

So I was just talking to someone about savory protein bars and while I am not there yet I just made a step in the right direction and created a new little snack for myself. Before my workouts I usually eat something that will give me a little energy boost for my workout. On higher carb days (today is one of mine) I like to eat an organic brown rice cake with some organic self ground peanut or almond butter on it. But today I was thinking about the savory protein bar and how meat flavors don't make a lot of sense because you would just eat meat. But then I got to thinking about Thai flavors and how unique they are and while I was thinking about my rice cake meal I started to think about how I could make it taste like Pad Thai. The peanut butter I made at Whole Foods is not sweet so making it savory was fairly easy. I spread the peanut butter on the rice cake, sprinkles some dried ground thai chili on there and splashed it with fish sauce (I have these things around because I like to cook Thai food). I had some left over cilantro and onion from turkey tacos last night so I threw that on there too. I was very close to the mark and very pleased with the taste I came up with. I just went to find what was missing and it turns out I was missing tamarind which is what really gives pad thai its unique flavor. Unfortunately tamarind is high in carbs so I am going to have to see if there is some sort of alternative or if the small amount I would need would change my nutrition profile significantly. Anyway it was really good, so I plan to experiment with more savory flavorings for that as well as looking for how to create a savory protein bar.
