What do we think about soups?
VSG on 06/26/12
I just eat it. Slowly, chewing all solids very well - in measured amounts. Possibly it helps that we pretty much only eat homemade soups, so my modest servings are tasty, nourishing and satisfying. (Most canned soup is just salty sludge)
According to my surgeon's post op diet the concern about drinking and eating together is that it can cause intense pain and nausea. Dense food plus liquid will certainly do that, but a nice homemade bean and veg soup has never caused Fred a moment of discomfort.
As usual, the deal is measured servings, and stop at the first sign of approaching fullness. Satiety nerves are slow nerves, so eating until you feel full inevitably means feeling uncomfortably overfull a few minutes later - not a happy way to feel.
