Seriously. Fermented grape juice is totally on my plan--unsweetened, of course.

So I won't die if I sip a glad or half during the 1st month post op? I think my wife is looking to take advantage of me.

I totally thought you were kidding...alcohol is not recommended basically ever...but especially not in the first six months. Let your tummy heal fully. And don't waste precious calories on what is basically just pure carb. It can also give you heart burn. I love a good red wine...sigh.

I thought you were kidding, too - I was kidding! Don't drink for the first few months of your surgery, at least that is what I was told. I am not drinking for 6 months. I gave it up a few weeks before surgery, and I do miss my red wine, but yeah - it can wait. It's aging in the closet and will taste better, anyway.

I waited for two or more months before partaking in alcohol after my surgery.  I just thought it was good to let my stomach heal as much as possible.  I also found that my body dealt with alcohol totally differently than before my surgery.

I was told no booze for at minimum 9 months by my doc.

I was partially kidding. I understand the beer/carbonation part. Just an occasional glass of wine during maintenance should be ok?

In maintenance, there is really no problem with having a bit of wine.  I have wine all the time, as in a few glasses a week and so far no problem.  I am a bit of a wine snob, so I don't see this turning into a huge problem.  :)
