Damn you Keith, you are in my head now lol!  I did squat machines yesterday at the gym, but I am trying to figure out what I can do today at the gym since I am going earlier than my usual classes this week....and I thought, well, I will do some cardio and will have to do squats and lunges, too.  So just so you know, your voice is now in my head at 6:00 am when I am planning my workout for the afternoon lol!

Excellent! Just make sure you do the squats and lunges first, then the cardio, you will get much more out of your workout.

Also starting with the squat machine is great but at some point try to do regular squats. The problem with the squat machines is that it lets you cheat because it holds certain muscle in place. If you are doing body weight squats you need to teach your body to stay balanced which is an important part of the squat. When you do the free weight squats the balance is much more difficult with a barbell on your back. The squat machine robs you of that balances aspect.

I do squats on a smith machine which allows me to push weight without worrying about balance too much. But every two weeks I do free weight squats on a regular squat rack with a little less weight, but its actually much harder, the first time I did it I looked like a tight rope walker who just started out.

I did do weights first yesterday (I only walked .2 miles slowly to "warm up", then did my weight machines/free weights, then I walked/ran for a mile, then stretched).

I have worked in some free weight squats to my routine....I have been doing 1 day of weight machines, 1 or 2 days of free weights/kettlebells, etc.  I have also tried to incorporate the standing bags for kicking (I used to go to an awesome cardio kickboxing class years ago and miss kicking the crap out of things lol!).  I am still working on my balance....I look drunk half the time lol!

Thanks for the workout tips!  I went to a trainer a few years ago when I joined my old gym, but this time have been doing it on my own (except when I am taking formal classes of course).

Thanks for the info.  I will try again tonight with the tips you gave me.  I have a PT session tomorrow night so I will have Adam watch to make sure I am in the right position.
