Trip to visit in-laws--a little unsure.

We are driving our 2 kids 10 hours to visit my MIL and her mother (my GMIL??) on Monday.  In Idaho.  In July.

It will be hot, and we'll be stuck inside, and while both of them have good qualities they also tend to be pretty negative people, which is wearing.  I fully expect to hear several lectures about us not visiting often enough.  Also, hubby's grandmother equates love with food and is a HUGE food pusher.  She is seriously so bad that once when we lived in Idaho and I was doing a low-carb diet TO HELP WITH FERTILITY (and of course she wanted us to get pregnant), someone ELSE finally stepped in after I refused her carb-laden stuff a zillion times and told her to back off.

So.  You can see why this trip has me concerned.  Add to the carbohydrate-crazed food pushing the fact that NEITHER OF THEM HAVE INTERNET ACCESS, and you get me with just my resolve and my iPhone (please let there be coverage) to deal with things.

I have already called the Y near my MIL's house and I can use their facility, so I plan to escape to there at least once a day.  We are staying with MIL, not carb-pusher, so that is good.  And I'm sure we'll find some things to go to do entertain the kids.  I will shop once we get there, so there will be things for me to eat (prepped by me).

But it's hard not to worry since I know what I'm walking into and how much situations like this push my buttons.  I suggested that I could stay home and hubby could take the kids (god, would there be anything better than an entire week ALONE?????), but that didn't fly.

Please, if you think of it next week, post a "stay strong, Sarah" type message here.  I can (hopefully!!!) read OH on my phone's browser, but it's such a huge pita that I rarely post from there.  We will arrive there Tuesday and leave for home Friday, so at least it's not too long of a trip.

Sending positive energy your way!  Hopefully we can send you enough to build up a little force field around you to get through the week!  One good thing, you'll probably burn a million calories at the Y!

You'll get through it.  You might want to break it down into chunks in your mind and every time you get through the chunk without giving in and eating off plan, you can reward yourself.  Think of suitable rewards that you can incorporate into your trip.

Good idea.  I will have to think of some rewards!

This makes more of a game you play with yourself to see if you can win.  The change in perspective can make all the difference to your attitude and your behavior.  It's the little things that work.  :)

You are wise to plan ahead - especially after the last visit!

I think you will be fine. You have become very grounded in your program and have shown a lot of drive and determination.

When I was at my aunt's house I took an hour each day to go to the local Starbuck's for WiFi access. Is that a possibility for you, as well. Helped me just to read and post a little while I was away (though admittedly I did do some major stress eating while I was with Auntie!).

I will be sending good thoughts your way. I know it can be hard, but I also don't want you to borrow trouble from the future! You're prepared, now let go.

Different in-laws, same stuff. :)  I will take my laptop.  Maybe they have wifi at the Y--we do at mine here.  Good idea.  And there is always Starbucks--which links nicely with Elina's suggestion of a "reward."  Sugar-free something, and I can bring my own almond milk for it. :)

Just remember, only allow it as a reward earned for chunks of time, don't use it as a way to numb yourself.  Big difference in perspective and mind space and leads to different outcomes.
