I'm Really Not Self Centered - just a little makeup for surgery

I know this is the least of worries for everyone, but do you think it would really hurt with just a little foundation on the face during surgery.  I know how self centered that sounds (and I'm really not that way), just don't want to look horrible, its bad enough I can't do my hair. enlightened

we where told no make up, lotions perfume ,nail polish is ok as long as it is non metallic

any makeup you put on will be messed up when they put a mask on your face , they will not look at your face during surgery

and everyone look terrible right after

I have to be at the hospital a 5:30 am I don't think I will run into anyone I know at the hour

I guess you can put some makeup on after the surgery but you should ask the nurse first , no perfume is aloowed at my hospital, even for visitors

1 day without make up will not kill you

You're making me laugh. If you care about your foundation immediately before, during, or after surgery, I"ll be stunned. I wasn't allowed to use any lotions or anything either btw. But the doctor did look stunned at my pre-op appointment when he asked, "So do you have any more questions?" And I immediately popped up with, "Yes. Can I get a pedicure?" Luckily there was a female resident in the exam room with him and she said, "Yes. That's not a problem. They only want to look at your finger nails during surgery to make sure your oxygen is OK. They won't check your toes." The PCP looked at her then me then started to laugh, and the resident said, "Bet you never got that question before!"

BTW I took a shower before my GB surgery 2 weeks earlier but didn't have time to fix my hair so I skipped the wash... I didn't make that same mistake before the WLS.

Good luck to you - I'm sure you're going to do great.

The only thing I'm doing before surgery is getting a pedicure.  Mostly because the only shoes I'm wearing to Mexico are flip-flops.  I don't think I'm even going to pack any make-up.  If I didn't have a cute red wig, Id probably be wearing a baseball cap home.  My passport says Blonde hair.... hope they don't make me "flip my wig" at the border. It's my last opportunity to look both fat and unattractive... LOL

Yep, they may.  My SIL was just telling us today she got a pat down because she wore a wig when going thru chemo for breast cancer.

Well, this is a new one. LOL

No, no hair products, no make up, no jewelry. They need clean with no extra stuff. They are there to do a job. No one will care what you look like - you won't either when you wake up.

Trust me, you aren't going to care much about washing your face post-op, so I'd go in as fresh and clean as possible to limit the "grunge" factor before you go home. Seriously, I had surgery Monday and TODAY has been my first real shower. You'll just feel too gross to worry about it.

Thank you all, I knew it really was a petty question, but I really hate to go anywhere without at least a little foundation on.  I think I'll be o.k. without it
