My weekend (mostly off topic, but I have photos!)

So, my childhood best friend who I haven't seen in 17 years moved to ATX last week.  I made dinner for her and her family on Saturday - delicious carnitas, Mexican cauliflower rice, black beans, cotija, guac, tortillas, sangria and a carrot cake cheesecake (her favorite).  I ate a bowl of just the carnitas and cauliflower rice with a small sprinkling of cotija and a little guac.  Shared it with my toddler.  I had no intention of eating the cake, but the siren song of carrot cake was apparently too much for me and I split a slice with my husband (he also had his own slice).  No bueno.  I don't feel guilty, I was right back on track yesterday, there's no sense in beating myself up over it since my body did it's own job of that.  I tracked it, and I moved on.  But oh man, I had the worst stomach pains all day yesterday.  I was just worn out, not to mention how physically horrible I felt after eating it on Saturday night.  Valuable lesson learned.  I can say no to most things, but my favorite kinds of cake are too hard.  I should have made her something she would have liked as much that wouldn't have been so impossible for me to resist.  Regardless, I do thank all the months of journey for allowing me to just let it go and move on the very next meal (just happened to be the next day).  It was really a wonderful dinner party, and everyone liked the cauliflower rice.  Haha.  Here are some photos.

I'm wearing a raspberry pink shirt that I purchased because Kairk said he thought I would look good in pink.  LOL.  I'm so easily persuaded :)

Sounds like you had a great weekend (except for the stomach pain!) Good lord, cheesecake is one of the hardest things to resist for me as well. Chocolate chip cheesecake... mmmmmm.... anyway, moving on!

Beautiful pictures... you look great! I agree with Kairk (who doesn't!? :)), the color looks great on you.

Cheesecake is no biggie for me.  I like it (I basically like anything with sugar), but I can take it or leave it.  Carrot cake, spice cake, gingerbread cake, pumpkin cake, any heavily spiced cake with cream cheese icing - now those, those are triggers.  The smell alone makes me lose all rationality.  Thank you!!!!

Kairk was right, that color does look fantastic on you.  We all have moments like the one you describe, it's normal.  You learned something valuable, got right back to your program and will hopefully make a better choice next time because of your experience.  Lesson learned, integrated and then you move on.  You have really got this thing down.  On another note, your family is just gorgeous and your smile is electrifying.  Your little girl is just captivating, a star in the making.  :)

It was a really valuable lesson.  I refuse to give up baking, but I now know that I need to just accept my achilles heel and not make the stuff that I know triggers me.  It's very, very few things that call to me, so I've had no issues with multitudes of other tasty treats I've made.  It's OK to recognize that I cannot be strong around this particular type of thing.  It's just beyond my capabilities.  :)  Thank you so much.  My little Bean is a total character - prissy, princessy diva in the making.  I'm just glad she's so helpful and sweet, it tempers her extremely dramatic personality.  I really hope she's a good singer, so she can do musical theatre.  She's already got the dance moves & the dramatic bent.  She's my little firecracker.  Oh man, I just love her so much it damn near breaks my heart.

Thanks for posting this.  I liked the pictures.  You look awesome!!  I loved your words of wisdom.  I haven't cheated yet but if I do I want to log it, get over it and get back on track.  Very inspiring!!  Thanks again.

I'm trying to learn and trying to realize that it isn't a failure, it's just a choice that I made and I can make a different choice next time or a better choice the next meal, or whatever.  One slip could send me into weeks of crazy sugary gluttony before surgery, and I do not want that to happen again.  The beating myself up thing just simply isn't worth it if it opens the door to that kind of behavior.  Log it, figure out why it happened, what I will do next time (if I will do anything differently as well) and move the hell on.  It's life, no one is keeping score, and no one is perfect.  Thank you!
