Great Article on Metabolism
I am on a bodybuilding.com kick today. Anyway I ran across this very good article about metabolism and things you can do to increase it.

somehow i find it hard to believe that my BMR is 3700 cal a day. my workouts usually cancel out what i eat for the day. so i should be losing 1 pound a day! i wish! lol
good article and tips though. I definitely need to work on all of them.
one question that has been bothering me though is ... can a WLS patient 'rapidly' losing weight while eating like 700 cal a day, 80+g protein actually build muscle? or is it just a matter of working what you have to keep and tone it.
another thing, you mentioned in another post that it might be better to eat my protein after workouts instead of before. I dont really understand the timing though. some say that working out after eating, lowers the sugars in your blood, preventing natural insulin formation and preventing fat creation. Others say that if you workout first thing in the morning before eating, that you will burn more fat from your body. both of these make sense in terms of fat creation/destruction. Then you have the other side of things, muscle ... how to prevent it from being cannibalized and build more. you find the same controversy of eating before and after workouts wrt to muscle (fuel your muscles before workout, eat after to help rebuild/repair). combine all 4 of these effects and I couldnt possibly be more confused about when is ideal time to eat relative to workouts !
right now it doesnt affect me much because i'm not working out really intensely, and i find i'm energy-restricted because my liver is barely functioning from another disorder. so i eat before to give me a bit of a push to get going. It would be good to know the 'proper' way to eat around workouts for both losing weight and maintenance stages. if anyone knows. lol
