OK, so I don't really have trouble falling asleep but I have trouble staying asleep and once I am up I am up. I don't like sleeping pills because they leave me hung over and I do not ever feel rested the few times I have taken them.

So a couple different events come together for me on occassion which causes the light bulbs to come on once in a while. Body builders take a supplement called ZMA that gives them better sleep. ZMA is basically Zinc, Magnesium, and Vitamin B-6. Now for men, this is a great stack because the Zinc helps the production of free testosterone, the B-6 helps to metabolize carbs, and the Magnesium helps with sleep. That's right Magnesium. I had jus****ched a couple videos about this less than a week ago.

Fast forward a few days and my workout partner, who for years has had trouble sleeping, falling asleep, staying asleep and he's an avid sleep pill user but has the same complaints I have about them. This guy has tried everything to sleep and NOTHING works. I have given him melatonin (which works great for me to get that sleepy feeling), I have given him audible therapy with brain wave devices. We have been on business trips and the guy when he does fall asleep performs a non-stop acrobatic routine. Its crazy. I feel bad for him because the one thing lacking in his fitness lifestyle is good sleep. Anyway he comes into the gym and says "I have had the greatest night sleep for the past couple of days and you are not going to believe this but its because I have been taking Magnesium. Bingo, once again the body builders have this **** dialed in.

So last night I went up and got my $10 bottle of magnesium from Walgreens and had one of the most sound nights of sleep I can remember.  So if you are having trouble sleeping give it a shot. I was surprised at how well it worked and its cheap.

How much did you take? A bonus, of course, is that the magnesium also helps with constipation. My hubby has the same issue as you with sleep AND has lazy bowels. I'll suggest that he try some magnesium tonight.

400mg but you can also get it in a 250mg dose. The bodybuilders ZMA supplements are about 300mg

Thanks Keith. I'll poke some down him tonight. He's back to taking Zopiclone, but I know he'd much rather take a non drug. (Especially if it helped those lazy bowels)

I am going to have to look into this for me!  I take a generic ambien occasionally after I go several nights with not sleeping.  Maybe this will do better for me.  I hate taking something that is addictive so I try not to take it until I have to.

I take it about an hour before with Zinc and a b complex. Also if I have had caffeine during the day I take 2mg of melatonin to get the sleepy feeling.
