Tired/Lack of Sleep = Hungry

A while back I speculated that on the occasion I didn't get enough sleep or was extra tired that I was extra hungry or had head hunger on those days. Well it hasn't happened in a while but it turns out that last night I worked very late and I was up early so I am working on about 4 hours of sleep right now. I had a sub-par workout this morning but I am starving today. Even after eating my extra hungry day fall backs that keep me on plan I am still hungry. So I am certain now that when I don't get adequate sleep I am extra hungry. And it is a hunger that I cannot quench.

It's a known phenomenon that some of us (including me) experience.  Lack of sleep ends up fatiguing your self-control center of the brain.  With expected results.

Lack of sleep is the worst for me.  I don't have the energy to have will power and my body craves sugar for some quick energy.  It's a double whammy.  Hope you get some good sleep tonight!

The same thing happens to me. I become a food seeking zombie like creature. It's the worst.

I have noticed that as well.  I need to get some rest too!

I am in complete agreement with this theory. I feel the worst on those days, feeling extra hungry all day on top of lack of sleep certainly is not helpful. Everything seems to need to be in balance to work properly! Geshhhhhh

I totally suffer from this affliction....its like you need to continually eat to stay awake or keep yourself going.  I don't know.  I started college four weeks ago and it has thrown a wrench in my weight loss.  During the summer I got up when I woke up...now its up every day at 5:45...the days are long and I don't have access to a refrigerator to store foods....everything has changed and I am tired and my weight loss ha**** the toilet.  I'm starting to understand why the Biggest Loser Ranch works so well....small amount of stress and everyday is pretty much the same....I'm ranting, just need to find a way to get it back together on my eating/sleeping plan.  Just wanted to say I agree 100%.

Overeaters Anomo had a saying HALT never get to Hungry, Angry Lonely or Tired - I think of it often. Sometimes I actually work the program and can get a handle on those things; but any one of them can lead me to overeat.

Thank you Keith for reminding me. I have had about 2 hrs sleep a night for the past 5 nights and I am exhaused and want to eat and not because I am hungry.

I love these forums they keep me in check by all the great info everyone puts out there. Thank You Guys!
