Why Whey?
Keith, I'm hoping for your input on this one since I am at a loss. My insurance company calls me every couple of weeks to check up on me (even though they denied my claim). Today, the insurance company RN encouraged me to look into "pea" protein. Have you ever heard or that?

I have, there are actually many kinds of protein powder. Is there a particular reason they suggested this? Are you lactose intolerant or allergic or a vegatarian? Whey is the most easily digested but there are whey isolates, hydrolized why isolates, whey blends, whey concentrates. So its not as cut and dried as just saying whey. If you are looking for a vegetarian protein, pea, soy, hemp are all good solutions. If you are lactose intolerant, then egg white protein or beef protein are good alternatives. You also don't need protein powders at all, they are just convenient and an easy way to get quite a lot of protein in a small drink. For example, 30 g of protein can either come from 1 to 1/4 scoops of protein powder mixed with 5-8 oz of almond milk or from 6 whole eggs. Even at a year out I cannot eat 6 eggs. I am lucky if I can eat two maybe 3 if I pushed it.
There are reasons for the other proteins, but as just a plain old alternative to whey, I do not think pea protein stands up, but it is still a good source of protein. I do believe it is also one of the more expensive forms. Whey would most certainly be the cheapest.
