Recipe of the Day - Pizza Topping Casserole
I agree with you about having enough fat in the diet...but this is not "good" fat..it is bad..very bad - High in saturated fats - Italian sausage and pepperoni.
There is a lot of fat in the heavy cream as it is made from the " butterfat layer from the top of milk before homogenization"..thus it is high in cholesterol..which is not good for the arteries and heart. Yes..cream makes things taste good and creamy..but we all know there are healthier substitutes.
Sodium is also necessary in the diet...but needs to be watched closely...too much sodium can lead to water retention and even worse..high blood pressure.
I would guess that a fair amount of people who visit here would look at this recipe and think.."oh I can have this..it has to be healthy..its posted on the website".
So..I guess I am just trying to put all the facts out there.

I understand, and used to feel this way too.. saturated fat and cholesterol used to be believed to be connected to heart disease and issues like that. I would alter it for calorie intake if I needed, but I'm in maint and the bulk of my cals are from fats (incl plenty of saturated fats, and eggs.. and cream in my coffee.) Nice thing is, my lipids are better now than they ever were. Good luck with everything- I bet you can alter this to fit your dietary concerns and have it pretty darn tasty!
So - I'm going to steal the idea and come up with a veggie ground round/turkey pepperoni version with a calorie level I can fit into my day. Hmm.. Italian blend cheese has more flavour than plain mozza, so I could get by with less...
Off she goes, grumbling...
