What's Your Workout Today VSGers? - Thursday!
Ok, What is OTF?
Saw my Dr yesterday for my 6 week follow-up and got a lecture about my exercise. Apparently I am an overachiever in that area and although he appreciates my enthusiasm, I need to rein my cardio back a bit. Most people he is trying to crank up but not me!!
Today, I will do 30 mins of the elliptical doing interval training. :)
OTF is Orange Theory Fitness, but it's the sentiment that counts on that one.
I think I have mentioned to you to not over do it a time or two. You should always listen to your doctor but I think your doctor is crazy for trying to hold you back. You should do cardio to the level that you are comfortable with. Unless you are risking physical injury because of your weight or some other issue. My only concern for you is burn out. It took me a long time to build up to my level of exercise bit it was a build up. You sort of started all out and that can lead to burn out.
Yep, you have.
I was doing what I felt was comfortable.
His concern is my energy level issues. I get tired and light headed later that day or the next. That is why he has asked me to dial it back a bit. So it's ok to do the 30 min interval training but not every day. And maybe not as hard. I need to listen to my body.
I hear you on the burn out part. I am an "all or nothing" kind of person. I am working on that. :)
I just read two things about the light headedness and your doctor should have known about this for us WLS patients. The reason it happens is that as we shrink the amount of blood that fills our veins reduces for some reason and you get light headed is the volume of the blood in your veins is not enough and you get light headed. The way to combat against this is oddly to drink more water. Drinking more water increases the volume in your blood (because the cells are hydrated) and this will stop the light headedness. The fatigue is to be expected and as long as you are not working out when you are fatigued you are not doing any harm.
30 minutes on the treadmill (interval incline and speeds) then I tried a new machine... the stair master. Had not seen this one before. It is like an escalator type machine and you actually climb the steps as they move. I really liked it and had a good burn on it. I only did 10 minutes to try it out and climbed 21 flights of steps! I even got it up to level 3 to speed it up. I was very worried I would fall off of it if it went to fast. lol
