I'm glad you're fighting back and taking the white-knuckle approach in addition to the healthy or justifiable means you have already tried to deal with your stress. 

I say this with absolutely no science to back me up at all, but I think it's chemical, as in the brain gets used to being soothed by having certain molecules of stuff hitting it via the bloodstream which derive from certain foods eaten under certain condition, and then it wants what it wants.  It reads so like a drug or alcohol dependence to me.

Just wanted to say I can empathize. My job has been soul-sucking lately and I've found myself wanting to strangle a particular coworker. I am going to read up on this tapping thing. I hope your situation gets better and you feel more in control. Hang in there!
