New Years Resolution or Reflection?
I am not a big fan of New Years Resolutions. They are just to easy not to stick to. I am a much bigger fan of reflecting on what worked and what you did well this year and recognizing what maybe didn't work so well or maybe you want to do better? What's the difference? Well one is a promise to yourself that you publicly proclaim that within the first month you forget about and basically break that promise which is depressing and makes you feel like a failure. The second is a list of things you want/need to work on that when you fail you just keep trying at! So what are you going to do this year resolution or reflection?
Here is my reflection:
Things I did well:
Ate 90% (maybe 85%) Clean
Exercised Regularly
Lost 180 lbs
Got my Family In on the Plan
Improved my 5k time by almost 15 mins
Things I want to do better:
Continue to lose weight, my loss has slowed, I want to pick it back up by changing things up a bit
Spend More Time with My Family, I let work and fitness dominate, need to focus on what is important and maybe change a few priorities
My last 5k time was between 25 and 30 mins. I want my next 5k to be under 25 mins.
Let's Hear Your Resolution or Reflection!
Keith - I love the idea of reflecting on the past year! And I think it's awesome that you want to make your family more of priority. I've been really self-focused this year (selfish, self-centered even?) because of the surgery and all the work it's taken post-op to stay on track and learn a new lifestyle. It's definitely been the Year of Tracy - for good and bad!
Next year there needs to be a lot more balance in all areas of my life.
Things I did well:
1. Lost 100 lbs. and got off all diabetes meds
2. Got a new job with a lot less stress
3. Exercised regularly
4. Motivated my husband to make healthy changes
Things to focus on or improve in 2014:
1. Increase my muscle mass and fitness level
2. Be a loving, supportive spouse when my husband has this surgery in April
3. Rein in my runaway spending so I can hit the financial goals I've set for 2014
4. Learn how to maintain my weight
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Things I did well.
I faced family crisis and came out stronger than I could have imagined. Both my mom and dad were very ill at the same time. Mom did not make it. Dad's health is just taken 1 day at a time. :(
Made the commitment to get healthy and followed through to have surgery. Lost 87.8 lbs.
Added consistent exercise to my routine.
Improved my agility with Beau. Went from Novice to Excellent level in 2013.
Things I want to do better.
Spend as much time as I can with my dad.
Improve my fitness by setting physical challenges to keep me focused. Feb 8th - Romp to Stomp 5k Snow Shoe, March 23 - The Big Climb 69 flights , April 19th - the Tulip Pedal
Improve my agility handling skills and speed to complete the Masters level. My way out there goal is to qualify for the 2015 AKC Agility Championship in Reno!
Eat clean 97% or better to achive my weight goal by Sept 12th, my surgery date.
On my 1 year anniversary, cycle the Tour de Blast up Mt St. Helens!
Things I did well:
1. made the decision to improve my health by having weight loss surgery
2. lost 24 pounds (since surgery two weeks ago)
3. adopted my second child from foster care
Things I hope to do better:
1. start exercising consistently
2. do more active things with my children
3. reach goal by Dec 16th of next year
4. adopt no more children from foster care ;)
Love this Keith!
Things I did well:
I managed maintenance very well- no trouble keeping the weight where I wanted it, and dropping a few pounds here and there when I wanted
Exercise- consistently kept to 2-3 days per week unless I was recovering from surgery
Found a new hobby that I adore and promotes health- backpacking!
Target areas
I need to improve the consistency I take my medicine- it has been terrible since this last surgery in particular
I want to juice more- it has proven to significantly improve my labs so I need to stop being so lazy with it
I want to improve my fitness so that backpacking 10-12 miles on trails with ample elevation changes won't cripple me by the time we are ready to set up camp, and I want to include the kids (or at least the ones willing to try it).

Reflection:
!. The decision to have VSG for my husband and I both has changed our lives -He's down 100 and I'm down 70!
2. So thankful for the health benefits - I had a heart attack in 2007 and my C reactive protein number is low for the 1st time in 10 years!!
3. I'm exercising consistently 3 times a week with a personal trainer who changes up my routine every time we meet - nothing ever gets easy - dang it! I hate to exercise so this is a huge accomplishment for me!
4. I got through a family crisis dealing with my mother's illness and death without gaining weight and eating my emotions - never thought this would be possible.
5. I'm getting more organized (always a past New Year's Eve Resolution which is never realized!). Since I have more energy now as I'm healthier and exercising - I'm getting more things done! I can actually walk into my closet - of course there aren't as many clothes in there but not a benefit I would have thought would come from this surgery!
Resolutions:
1. Cut out the night eating- never a good idea and has snuck in again.
2. More cardio - find something else I like to do. I like Zumba but the class & teacher I liked is no longer - gotta find another one!
3. No negative self-talk.
4. Follow through on finding the right volunteer commitment.
5. Do not compare myself to others on this board! I'm losing weight - just slowly!
6. Find a creative outlet or hobby.
Happy New Year!! Think I'm going to print this out!!
