My doctor doesn't feel that "shrinking the liver" makes any difference, so I only had a 3 day pre-op diet. Two days were light food like soups and salads and the day before surgery was liquid only. I did not cheat even though I really wanted to! Good luck to you.
I had RNY but I had one of the longest pre-op diets ever (or so it seemed). In all honesty, yes I did cheat twice. When I cheated, it was NOT for carbs. The intent was to shrink my liver, and high protein was what was required, so it was baked chicken. I just needed that extra boost of protein that I didn't feel like I was getting from the shakes. I threw in a chicken breast, baked it until it was golden brown, and enjoyed it.. and then went right back on my liquids. I spaced out my cheat days, so neither one was close to actual surgery date. Before surgery I was strictly on plan, and it went well.
I'm not saying what I did was right, or that it should be okay if you just have a day where you eat something with protein, but if you're going to do it, make sure it's not something that is going to help you throw away the rest of your preop diet. Make sure it's something that contributes to your end goal.

I didn't but I WANTED TO!
I was miserable and craving everything and anything. It does get better. I heard after three days, unfortunately for me, it wasn't until day 7. I feel sooooo much better and don't have the cravings.
You can do this! Try SF popsicles. I wasn't sold on them until I had them. Anytime I got a bad craving, I grabbed one of those or drank mint tea. And, the benefits of sticking to it ... I've already lost 15 lbs since I started. You can do it!
I just had surgery on Monday. I didnt cheat on my 2week pre op diet but another one of my doctor's patients did. Her surgery was right before mine and the doc was unable to.complete the surgery. I am so.sad for her, i cant imagine how she feels.
