Something has been bothering me

My sister n-law, who I love dearly, and who was just being nice, told me that "I could just stop where I'm at and not lose any more weight, and I'd be all right".  Well, that has really stuck with me for some reason and I notice I haven't been working my sleeve as I had before this comment.  I'd still like to get to goal and lose 50 more pounds, but I've got to get going again!!!

Remember that your goal is YOUR goal. My mother has said things like that to me recently. I've lost 90 pounds and have about 40 to go before I reach my first "goal." She said a few days ago that "you could probably stop where you're at and be perfectly happy"... She meant it as a sincere compliment, but I know that I won't be happy until I've reached the goal that I've set for myself.

You can get to your goal if you want! Work that sleeve, girl!! Go back to basics if you need to get a kick start! Carb detox and focus on your protein! You know what to do :)

I started hearing this also.  My husband even came out and said it just before Thanksgiving.  Yes, it did seem to give me permission to stop working it.  I have already passed all the goals I set for me.  This last one is to be a "normal" bmi.  I got within 3 pounds but after not trying, 3 weeks cruising and Christmas, I am now 10 pounds from normal.  I worked myself back up to a tolerance for Alcohol and am upset with myself as I couldn't drink more than a couple oz of wine and a little sugar without getting very sick.  Now it isn't bothering me.

I have been back to working it the last couple days as those jeans that looked so good last months, look tight now.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

I chalk it up to a few things/have a few ideas. Perhaps she was just offering you a compliment and it came out this way. Maybe, because of the prevalence of overweight/obese people in society, people are more likely to view someone who is overweight as normal. Another thought: you have changed drastically in your appearance and their brains haven't reset yet. I think we are not the only ones who deal with dysmorphic issues - I think people around us have them too when it comes to how they perceive us. Finally, have you thought about how your weight loss changes the family dynamic? If you used to be the heaviest person in the room and you aren't any longer, that means someone else IS. That can be threatening and unsettling, and it could be affecting folks in a subconscious way that is reflected in speech and actions.

Not that you should own any of this, however. These are all issues that others need to own. Keep the determination to stay your course and not stop till YOU want to stop!

That really made sense to me about the family dynamics and who will end up being the new fattest one. That never even occurred to me before. Wow, great insight. Thanks!

totally agree with what Laurie said.  I would only add that to keep the conversation about that subject to a minimum, and not have to defend your decision, I'd say something like "oh thank you, yes, you're right"...and then go ahead and meet your goals...if they say in the future that you are still losing weight, say "oh you think so?" like it's no big deal, and drop it....I find I am having less and less tolerance for peoples comments on my weight, and end the conversation by not arguing....let them think 'they won'....it's a less rude way of saying 'whatever'. LOL

good luck!

I've had few comments like that. Just smile and say that is so nice of you to say. Thank you! ...then continue with YOUR PROGRAM to YOUR GOAL. You won't be sorry. Good luck and great work so far!
