Ladies: Will they still do your surgery if...
I got my period the day before surgery and was mortified. I googled it, and found the most reassuring thread ever right here on obesity help. It's really no big deal. I told the nurse in pre-op and asked if I'd be able to use a tampon. She said no, and handed me a lovely pair of super sexy, one size fits all, stretchy mesh disposable panties and a huge maxi pad and pointed me toward the restroom to handle business. She didn't bat an eyelash, and the only person to say a thing was a nurse on the floor who had to handle the measuring of my urine output, and she just came out of the restroom and said, you poor thing, like you needed your period on top of all this, huh? It really didn't bother me or anyone else in the least, but I did ditch the mesh panties and giant pad for my own stuff as soon as it was feasible. :)
Hehehe. Thanks for the anecdote. I was terrified they might delay my surgery. It's really hard to do all the paperwork to take time off work, man!
I'm nabbing a portable bidet before I take off for the hospital. I used one during one of my previous hospital stays and it was a godsend because my abdomen was ground beef at the time, I was SUPER sore, and there was no way I was going to twist around to 'reach' all areas when I used the potty. And then like a dummy I threw the thing away. Won't make that mistake again!
I had just had my TOM a few days before surgery. I have an IUD, so mine are short and light typically, so I had started on Monday and it was well over by the time I had surgery on Friday. No matter, though. The surgery caused me to have another extra little TOM anyway. My friend who is a nurse said, "They didn't tell you that could happen?"
Anyway, even if you weren't already, it often happens that you get one anyway, so it doesn't phase them at all.
