CLEARED FOR SOFT PROTEIN.
Adding some real foods definitely helps with the diarrhea. Refried beans and avocado and the ricotta bake are great. I'm still finding eating a pain compared to shakes, but even a little real food helps. I've also found chicken to be easy to take a small bite of and puree with chewing. My surgeon also suggested benefiber which I think has been helpful. He also advances to pureed foods at the end of week 1. It's interesting to see how different surgeons have different recommendations. Good luck!
Wow, with me, it's the opposite. Eating actual food is relieving my gastric distress whereas drinking shakes seemed to sap my energy. I'm progressing carefully and trying small amounts of things first, but so far, my little bites have been tolerated very well. I still get the temptation to drink after a meal - it's what I have always done. Need to kill that habit since it just washes the food through and empties my sleeve.
Hi my name is Tina and I had my gastric bypass the same date as your surgery. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sending me your mayo recipe?? My email is: [email protected] thank you and I pray you do well!! I'm scared of food too right now and I stay sick at my stomach but my dr tells me it will pass.
I have not made any mayonnaise yet, but I use this with tuna, chicken, and in making salad dressings and sauces.
1 egg + 1 egg yolk (I get eggs from a local farm. Get free range, organic, local eggs if you can.)
1.5 tablespoons white vinegar
1 tsp yellow mustard
1/2 tsp sea salt
1/2 tsp sweetener (splenda, honey, or white sugar)
1 cup "light flavor" olive oil (don't use extra virgin for this recipe) or avocado oil if you have it
1. In a blender or whisking in a bowl, cream together everything except for the oil. Turn the blender to medium high (or whisk very very fast) and slowly drizzle in the olive oil.
I have friends who make this "by hand" and others who use an immersion blender in a jar. I use my Vitamix and get great creamy mayonnaise every time.
Keeps 1-2 weeks. Makes 8 oz.
NOT A LOW CALORIE RECIPE - USE THIS SPARINGLY. However the fat in this mayo is healthier than the fat in the mayo you buy from the store which is usually soybean or cottonseed oil.
I have tried lowering the fat by adding water and vegetable glycerin. However, the taste and texture suffers.

I think a lot of us have had issues with diarrhea type problems. one week you have way too loose bm's, and then the next week way to dry, and that is another whole set of problems for u. until we get to a regular diet, these things will continue, we need to eat some vegi's, some fiber, which most of us aren't getting the first month or two
but whatever u find that helps ur particular problem, pls let the rest of us know, cause a lot of us are going thru the same things,
take care and god bless, its gonna get better

I've had good luck with stopping the 'shakes' and moving on to 'solid' protein supplements, nibbled slowly over the course of the day. Quest bars are a favorite. I like the cookie dough flavor. My sleeve and I both like the 'liquid' supplements just fine, but my intestines don't seem to know what to do with them, which is VERY frustrating because I know I wasn't absorbing any of it.
Magnesium keeps things moving in the BM department until I can hit the veggies hard again. Unlike some folks with obesity issues, I really do LOVE my salads and veggies! I was even a vegan at one point in my life! I'll give it a few months first though, before I do those again. If BMs are too slow/dry, I'd recommend slowly adding magnesium supplements (use Mag. Citrate****il your BMs are the desired consistency. Too much Mg will 'blow you out' though, so have respect for it.
