Soon to be a two-VSG household!
Thanks so much, Nancy! I can definitely see the advantage that he'll soon understand what I mean when I say something is "stuck" or when I describe what "full" feels like.
My family has been very supportive too, although I think my parents and adult children were a little dubious at first. My brother, who is a doctor and was very enthusiastic about my decision, predicted that my husband would want to get this surgery too once he saw how much it would help me. And he was right!
Hi Tracy, this will be wonderful for the both of you. You've had so many responses here that are so helpful, I'll just add my two cents worth. My husband had the RNY about 2 years before I did the vertical sleeve. It was actually perfect timing for us both as I am working hard now to get to maintenance and he is working hard not to start over eating again. So, we actually try and steer each other in line. I think my main advice would be to let him have "his" sleeve, his way--my meaning is that this is his journey now, he may do things a little differently than you did them. Try and steer him, but let the voyage be his, and let him be successful in the way he finds to do things (kind of hard sometimes). I hope that makes sense.

Wow Tracy - there are lots of similarity between us as couples! And it is irrating that men can lose so much faster - I swear I have to be really strict to lose weight and he can halfway do the diet thing and lose. And not exercise and lose. UGH!! Hard to keep quiet but that's life and the difference with men and women. Oh well - he's exercising now and it's awesome! I've lost 70 and he's lost 130!
I absolutely love my new toy to make zucchini noodles - it is so much fun!! I bought mine from Amazon - they have it at Williams-Sonoma. I think I paid around $30 for it. I've made spiral slice zucchini, yellow squash and onion with it! My skinny friends turned me onto it!

I can't tell you how much fun going on a bike ride is again - we've already gone 10 miles together - we live around Houston, TX and have had some pretty days.
We are a VSG couple too. DH (Mike B) had his sleeve done 9 months before I had mine. They would have been closer together, but when you have Kaiser, things move slow.
Anyway, I could probably write a book about how this has improved, yet altered our lives. We don't let food be the focal point of social gatherings anymore. We are both quite active now, it was much harder before. Mike runs 1/2 marathons, and is training for a full one in May. I figure skate, competitively (recreational league) and we ballroom dance together.
We help keep each other accountable for the way we eat. This really helped us both reach our goal weight/size. When we go out, we either split something we both want, or if we order a full meal, we pick something on plan that re-heats well. Then we use the leftovers for another meal or two.
Some things to keep in mind, men deal with hormone dumping too. men generally drop weight faster, and most men will have problems "eyeballing" portion sizes.
Let me know if you need any help with the adjustments in your lives as you enjoy this remarkable journey together.
