When I got married, I was sick and losing a lot of weight very quickly kindasortamaybeonpurpose. I found out that David's Bridal will let you exchange a dress for the same style in a different size as long as it hasn't been altered or worn! I bought a 16 at first, swapped it for a 12 six months later (we were engaged for about a year), and then they ended up trading it for a 14 because of something funky with how the alterations were working out.
This was back in 2006, so you'll probably want to call and see if it's still the case, but I imagine they deal with this sort of thing often so it would be a consistent, chain-wide policy. Plus they have lots of pretty stuff in different price ranges, mine was gorgeous and $300ish :)

If you are concerned about alterations, look at lace-up backs. They are more forgiving as far as fit goes.
My dress was off the rack at David'd Bridal (so no, it wasn't a fancy designer dress or anything, but it was in my budget of $700) and I didn't need it altered b/c it was a lace-up back.
If you have to watch price and don't want to spend it all on alterations - off the rack closer tot he wedding seems like the best option. Good Luck!

Ohhh, this is a scary but nice problem to have! So much better than worrying that you might gain weight and not fit! :-)
I saw a girl on Say Yes to the Dress that was buying a dress prior to WLS. She bought one several sizes smaller than where she was then - maybe 3? - and then ended up having to have a few alterations but not many. I don't know what the alterations cost. It's a risky option, though, unless you find a store that will let you exchange for another size or will cap the alteration fees. I'm guessing a "chain" like David's Bridal will be more accommodating and cheaper than a bridal boutique that are really on the timeline of a designer.
Good luck! Can't wait to see pictures!

If there is a dress you have in mind I would go and try it on and see if it is the one.I would ask the bridal store to see if they can cut it down or should you order a smaller size. they would be able to help you more. There is a company called Newyorkdress.com and they have so many beautiful dresses not only prom dresses but dresses you could get married in.
I would take a look at that website. They are not that expensive compared to wedding dresses. If you don't have an idea I would wait till it got closer to the wedding. There is always something out there. David's bridal has some nice things also. I was married 24 years ago and I want to get married again and Ebay has a ton of dresses also. I would love to work in a bridal shop that is why I am so into dresses.
I think you should email Klienfields in New York and tell them your situation maybe they would use you on the show.
Best Wishes to you.
Don't stress you will be a beautiful bride.
