I don't usually struggle this much, but here it is.
I have been blessed. Getting to goal was straight forward, and maintaining has been in a good place. Note the past tense of that last sentence. Next week I am going in for a double mastectomy, and my eating is almost the exact opposite of on plan. Originally this was supposed to be prophalactic, but my MRI found some cancer. The only time I struggled during the weight loss phase or maintenence was when my biopsies came back positive and I had surgery- so nothing new here. This time though, the weight is flying on. I am up 5-6 pounds and for the first time realized I am avoiding the scale.
Life happens to each of us, and at some point you will hit a crossroads. Although we may not always have a choice on what type of situation we find ourselves in, we do have a choice how to respond to it. Time for me to respond in a way that supports my health.
I wish everybody God's speed on their weight loss journey.

My heart goes out to you upon hearing that they found some cancer. I am a cancer survivor, and I am very sympathetic to what you're going through.
A year ago during a routine CT scan, they "found" something near my right ovary identified as a lesion. I had been on my six month diet in preparation for WLS. As soon as I received the news, I went off the diet and binged. I gained 10 pounds in two weeks from the stress and the fear. I totally understand.
Take care of your health and yourself. I wish you the best results possible and please keep us apprised of any developments. We care

The cancer thing is getting old. I know you get it- the eating like crap once the diagnosis is in. It just ****** me off that I am so cognizant of knowing this happens, and then I let it happen anyway. Like another poster said, in the big picture it is only a couple pounds. I just hit my fatty rule (well, technically .2 ounces away) so that triggers my going back into weight loss mode. In some ways the fatty rule is a relief- no more denying what is happening and a clear starting point for getting it under control.
I hope your cancer situation is controlled and you are in good health. Thanks for responding.

I wish God's blessings for healing of all you are going through. In the scheme of things a few pounds are not going to make or break anything. You have a tough surgery ahead of you and you need to focus on healing your mind and body in many different ways. You can do the same with the few pounds you have gained.
Please make sure you have lots of support and be good and kind to yourself. Today I was looking for a book to help me deal with the emotional turmoil of the complications I've had since surgery.
I think you might find this book helpful also. A short, strongly God-driven read...
Taking Your Life Back: Overcome Any Obstacle From the Enemy by Rick Shelton
God bless you and keep you.
Thanks for the recommendation- I will look that up. Very thoughtful of you to post the suggestion.

Girl. I have no words. I'm so sorry that this has become your life. I can't say that I wouldn't react the exact same way.

I know right? I am in the middle of an Ed. Specialist program and one of the professors is a leader nationally on Mindfulness. She mentioned that in class one night and it really resonanted with me, as I have to be very aware of how reactive I can be. I really need to put that on a t-shirt or hang it on the wall or something. It is a great point to center oneself around.
