Struggling with protein shakes- any recommendations?
I tried many before and after surgery and every one I tried in powder form made me sick. Isopure in the bottle also made me sick. The only one I have been able to keep down is pure protein in the already made in the can version. I gave up trying all others and am just sticking with these. 35 grams per can.
I am in the exact same boat as you. I had my one-week follow-up yesterday, and my nutritionist said to graduate to Greek yogurts and sugar-free pudding, and she told me to mix the unflavored protein powder in with those. She said I can get most of my protein that way, and then next week I can move up to soft foods. I have a few samples of the unjury unflavored protein powder that I'm going to try tomorrow. Best of luck.

I have a similar problem. I didn't mind the taste of my Syntrax Nectar shakes pre-op. I have the chocolate, vanilla, Caribbean cooler, and double stuffed cookie. Post-surgery, the vanilla and chocolate are the only ones I have any interest in. However, I can only drink 2-3 oz. before my sleeve says "ENOUGH!" and I have to stop. Then I feel like I have shake going all the way from my sleeve up my throat until it finally decides to all stay down.
Not much in the way of solutions for you. However, I taste tested the Jay Robb vanilla and found it more palatable than the Nectar. It's way more expensive though.
Do you have a Vitamin Shoppe in your area? They sell all sorts of little packets of different shake brand flavors. I bought up all the ones I thought I might be interested in, before I bought the big jugs. You might want to try that.
One more tidbit. My surgeon's PA told me that he knew that the nutritionists would be most interested in having me get all my protein shakes in. But for the first two weeks, he said he would be happy if I just got all my water in, rested, and took a B-Complex. The protein shakes and vitamins would come in time as I healed up and became less sensitive to different tastes and smells. I try to get in a little more good nutrition each day, so I can always say, "I'm working on it!"
Thank you all for taking the time to respond- I appreciate it. I will definitely be trying some of these suggestions. I did call my nutritionist last night and she said to start Greek yogurt to help, but I'm scared that it's to early. I see my doctor today and they sell samples of bariatric advantage and their is a vitamin shoppe nearby, so I can stop there too.
I'm 2 weeks out having the same trouble. I know this is bad but Sunday and Monday I did not have one ounce of protein. I'm just tired of it. Even my pee was smelling like protein. I can't do it anymore. The only thing I can stomach a little bit is the half of the Isopure in Green Tea and half it with water. You do drink more of it but gm it's better than nothing :)
I lived on ensure high protein when I was pre op. Be careful because they have different kinds, one os designed for people that want to increase tgheir weight lol! Now I cant stomach any RTD shakes. My favorite right now is click mocha and vanilla latte. I couldnt have caffiene for 2 months, not sure what your rules are, so that may or may not help. I also like several of the nectar flavors- chocolate, double stuffed cookie, and cappuchino; and i like celebrate ENS protein cake batter flavor.
What about milk? Kroger Carbmaster milk has high protein, low sugar, and low calorie. I am using it now, instead of shakes, and like it much better.
Before I did the switch, I had found About Time protein powder. It's made w/ stevia, has only a few ingredients, and is NOT overly sweet and sickening. I liked it better than the other shakes I'd tried.
