It's your son's birthday. It should be about him and what he likes, not you. I know I'm only 6 weeks out so can't give the best advise but I think you should make the cake for him and "IF" you feel like having a piece, have it! have a sliver or a bite or 2! For my nephews communion I spoke to my doctor about a similar situation and he told me I could have a sliver and I had 2 bites and pushed the rest away and I was fine with that. Make the cake! : )

Cheesecake.  Made it with as natural - good ingredients. Top with real fruits.. have a bite.. and stop atone bite..  (please don't try to feed your kids splenda or other crap like that)

I'm with what White Dove suggests -- buy a regular birthday cake for your son and guests.  Make some of Eggface's protein cupcakes for yourself.

Don't turn it into a big deal - you're going to be met with these challenges all the time in the future.  Others shouldn't have to pay for your choice to have WLS.  I'm sure Eggface's cupcakes will be fine, but they won't taste the same as a "regular" cake, so please don't make your son and guests eat them.  Just MHO.

I agree with the other posters.  For  YOUR birthday, make something that you can eat and will enjoy.  For the son's birthday, make something HE can eat and will enjoy.  This is a good time to sit down with yourself and re-prioritise!

When, for the rest of your life, will you allow yourself to splurge and enjoy treats without guilt?  Your birthday? Sure.  Your family's big annual or religious holiday?  Okay.

Everyone else's birthday? Every time you're in a restaurant? Every time you're confronted with a cake or pie?  Every time you're feeling glum?  Not a good idea.  Also not a good idea to splurge and eat treats with guilt.  We've all been there in the past.
