Adopted two kids

Hey all! I adopted two kids over the past year or so. On April 6th, 2004 we got gaurdianship of our son, Sean. He was 9 months old. Our final decree came on June 23, which is my birthday. What a great birthday present! On Febuary 2 our daughter Molly was born, and we had custody immediatly thanks to some new laws in Alabama. Final decree on Molly was March 8th. So for those keeping count... 1 day shy of 11 months from the day we got Sean. We are truely blessed. The children are full blooded siblings, and their birth grandmother (Paternal) is heavily involved in their lives. Both of my parents have passed, so she's basically adopted me too!

Thats great! I have full guardianship of my cousin's baby. I got her when she was 4 months old and she will be 2 on the 21st of this month. I've been trying to find a way to adopt her without digging a huge whole in my pocket....any suggestions? Congrats on the adoption!!! ~nancy

Depends on the laws in your state, but in Alabama with an open adoption, there is plenty of low cost alternatives. Mostly, you'd need the background check, the home study and lawyer/court fees. So around $5000.

When you do a kinship adoption (at least in PA) it is free. They even pay you for diapers and such. Check with a social worker and an agency.

Congratulations, Michael ! It sounds as though you have a loving little family. I've had my son since he was 3 days old and now he is 19!! No one could have ever told me how much work parenting would be or how much joy it would bring to my life. You are blessed indeed!!!

That is so awesome. I am in the process of adopting 2 more children. I adopted my first 2 when they were the ages of 8 and 13. They were foster children. Now I am in the process of adopting my second 2 and they are full blooded bro and sis and they are 3 and 5 I have had them for almost 2 years. What a blessing these kids are to all of us. I too am keeping my adoption open to the grandparents as well on both sides. And the maternal great uncle also has visitation.
