Kathy:
I am so happy you are reunited!! I am an adoptee, right now I am in the process of trying heal from the pain, anger and abadonement issues I have regarding being adopted. Once I get through that I hope to find my birth family. What a gift it is not only to know where you came from but to have your medical history as well.
I am so happy for you!!!

Topic: Little Angel Adoptions
Hello all. Hope it's okay if I just jump in. We have been contemplating adoption for about 4 years now. We have no children of our own. My mother gave me the link for little angel adoptions. It is run by an attorney in California. They have a flat fee, which is something I've not run across before. Facilitated by an Attorney seems like an awesome way to go, and we're so excited now that we plan to start fundraising for our adoption. Anyway, there is a 2 year contract and unfortunately if they don't place a child with you in that timeframe you lose your money... that part is terrifying! The cost is $9,850. If you pay in full you get $400 off. Thats an incentive I guess. She's sending me the material in the mail and I'll have more details... but it really seems like a legitimate place.

Topic: RE: Just started foster to adopt classes
Congrats. Its a long road MAPP class. but worth it. I have 3 bio children and 4 adopted. May be going for the 5th soon. I'm a foster/adoptive parent and a MAPP co-leader. I always love helping people along on their journey to adoption. Somewhere out there are the kids for you. I too always wanted to adopt. Where are you located? I'm in Western, NY

Topic: Just started foster to adopt classes
Hello Everyone,
Well last night my husband and I started the first of 9 classes for foster to adopt program. We are very excited and are anxious to get our family on the way. I have always wanted to adopt even as a youngster I had believed that one day soon I would be adopting children from numerous places. I thank God that he has placed my husband and I together and that we both share a common vision. we have two teenagers my youngest is 14 and will be graduating from the 8th grade
with honors, and my daughter is turning 18 she is out of school now and starting a family of her own. Our first grandbaby
is due June 21st. So as you see we have lots going on and oh my I am rambling on, sorry but I am excited!!!!

Topic: We are in the process of adopting from China!
We are Dossier submitted as of 1/7/05, and our Dossier was Logged In on 1/27/05. We should receive our referral, hopefully, in July. Because of the Chinese New Year, we might not receive it until August. Then travel approx. 2 months after referral to pick up the baby! Yayyy!!!
I agree that the international adoption process costs entirely too much. We would love to have another kiddo or two, so we are going to look into foster/adopt locally after about 1 year or so. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! I'm still in denial, but trying to get my self psyched up. It just doesn't seem real.

Topic: RE: Adoption through DHS (long)
I definately agree. There are so many children in the U.S. that need parents. Me and My husband also adopted our first and only child through the welfare system. She is considered special needs because of her ethnicity and she was exposed to drugs while her birth mother was pregnant but she is healthy and normal. She was 2 months old premie when we got her and looked like an alert newborn. She is beautiful and a blessing from God. It only took us about 9 months from start of the process until we got her and then about 14 months later the adoption became final.
A word of advise...do not hesitate to state exactly what you want, for example: race, ethnicity, age, special needs...drug exposed or fetal alcohol..Do your research..you know what you want and don't want. Be specific. And then just pray....God gives us the desires of our hearts.
We are currently waiting on our 2nd child. This time around is a little longer...but I know it will be worth the wait.
Oh and our adoption was basically free. The money we spent was reimbursed to us, and we received Aid for Adoptive families and medical for our daughter until she is 18. And....don't forget the tax benefit as well, over 10,000 credit for special needs whether you had the expenses or not. How can you go wrong. It is truely a blessing all the way around..
My daughter...not born under my heart but IN it!!!

Hi Kathy,
Just roaming around the boards and saw your post . I was adopted shortly after birth. I met my birth mother at age 22 (20 yrs ago!) and we have had a steadily growing relationship since. It took a long time for us to become comfortable with one another. She lived in Wash D.C and I lived in Ma. She is now in Maine and we see each other often. We email daily. It has been very interesting to learn about her and see the similiarities between us.
