Rutan VariEze. They are a kick to fly. Every pound I loose is translated into a fraction of a gallon of 100LL in my mind.

Well Jeff, I am not sure you're still monitoring this forum, but I am new to this site. I haven't had my surgery yet, but hope to soon. Anyway, as to your post, I am partial to the high wings. Right now, I am part owner in a Cessna 205, but its up for sale. I love flying for the fun of it and would rather not have a wing to obscure the view. One of my dreams, after losing the weight, is to get my taildragger endorsement and find a good restorable cub.

I am more into commercial airlines. My father worked for Braniff from 1956 until they went bankrupt in 1982. That was a very sad day for me. I was 13 years old. Braniff was the most awesome airline and prided themselves on first class service. I loved the different colors of the originals and then the last versions with the 747-300's and 400's. That is my absolute favorite airplane. My favorite paint job was the KLM's. I also miss PSA airlines which had a smiley face on the front. Gone are the days of Eastern, National, Pan Am, etc.... A majority of my fondest memories involves airplanes. I grew up close to DFW in Dallas and my father would take me out there on weekends to watch the planes land and take off. I swear by the age of 4 I knew all the makes and models. We would take a lunch and spread out on a blanket. My father knew of a secret road next to the runway so they landed pretty close after they flew over us. We could even hear and sometimes feel the vortex's of the engines. Boy you sure can't do that anymore can you!!!!!!!! Man.... nothing beat the hum of a Lockheed 1011. Dana

Favorite general aviation airplane? Hummmmm now that is a good question as there are so many things about so many aircraft it is hard to choose one but my all around favorite is a Porsche Mooney. A real hot rod and arguably easy to fly. BUT! My all time favorite aircraft is a warbird. The T-28-C has to be my favorite. Yeah I know about them all but I really like to fly this airplane. It is forgiving, powerful, has excellent view from ****pit and even comfortable for a military aircraft. And on top of that you cannot hurt this airplane short of flying it into a fixed object. I flew one for 6 months prior to it going into our shop for restoration and we found a cracked wing spar inboard of the third starboard hardpoint. Scared me to no end but only shows how tough this airplane really is. The Commander is an excellent airplane that is plagued with some ADs that really are questionable and this I think makes people stay away from this very good ship. I have worked on a few of them and find that most of the Directives are really unfounded but hey we are talking about the F.A.A.
