can you have an IUD when you have Gastric Bypass Surgery?

I have a question. Can you have an IUD when you have gastric bypass surgery. I had a mirena put in about two years ago...I was just wondering if I would have to have it removed before surgery? I was hoping someone could let me know about their experience or any info they might know. Thanks so much , Jaye Jaye

No removal needed! Just make sure that the doctors know about it.

Yes you certainly can I have one and I had my surgery on Aug.22'07, I just made sure I told my surgeon, he said No Problem.
