Ok all, I would perfer the lap band over the lap rny. Does anyone know why Tricare won't cover it or if they are studying it and that it might be covered in the near future? Just curious. Thanks in advance Cam

Cammie, When I researched at the beginning of the year. The lady at tri care said there wasn't enough research and studies done on it yet. But just remember four years ago, you had to beg, bleed and borrow to get the gastric done with tri care. She said it could be in the near future but she wasn't for sure. She also said if your doctor will write a letter and state why the lab band will be better for you then the gastric then they would consider it. So, I am not for sure who you are going through, but see if they would write a letter. I too, wanted the lab band over the lap rny...but after more research and going through the support group leadership training with obesityhelp.com, I think I made the right choice for me. They say that it is easy to slip with the lab band..BUT of course, I have never had it, so I don't know. But one thing to think about, is the fact if you are military dependent, how long will your significant other be in the military and will there be a dr. willing to work on you, where ever you go. From doing research, I have found that a lot of drs. won't work on you, if someone else started the work. With the lab band, you have to go back every so often to get the saline inserted. So that is why I decided to go with the lap rny. Less trips to the dr. and I don't know where we are going all the time. I hope that helps some. I see you are in Missouri, I am orgininal from Lebanon. See you are the Happy and Healthy Side, Lea Lewis
