Topic: RE: hello - I am new here TOO :)
Hi heather, your situation sounds a lot like mine. I was about to have surgery 3 years ago (got all the way to pre-op at Ft. Gordon) When we PCS'd to Hanau, Germany...then my hubby deployed to Iraq, but instead of coming home and having surgery we just went ahead and got pregnant with baby boy #2. So when our unit came to Ft. Hood for training I went ahead and got the ball rolling. Had an appointment with my pcm for a referral b/f i even had the cable turned on...lol If you ever want to chat just e-mail me.

Topic: hello - I am new here TOO :)
hello. i'm heather, mom to 8 month old mahaley.
i'm 30, and hoping to have lap RNY within the month. I basically waiting on my ins. packet to come back from TRICARE APPROVED...and then we'll go from there.
I live in Columbia, SC ( Ft. Jackson is here). My situation is that spring 04' my DH and I were PCS'd to Wiesbaden, Germany.
But my DH just left this summer for Iraq. So, while he is deployed, my daughter and i have come back to where my family is from for support, etc..and while i'm here i'm gonna have Surgery. I was about to get it in Germany, but stopped the process once we knew DH was deploying.
Hope to get to know you all better.

Topic: RE: Fort Lewis, WA! I need help finding a good PCP/PCM
Sandy,
I'm not familiar with any docs in WA, but I am familiar with having to find a civilian PCM, and I totally understand wanting to find one that is friendly to overweight people. I went to my new PCM for the first time back in May. I chose a woman thinking maybe she'd understand my situation. She was very friendly and spent lots of time with me, but she had no idea about WLS. (She's from Puerto Rico) I had to actually draw her a picture and explain what a RNY was. Needless to say, I found a new civilian PCM.
What I'd suggest is call a few of the doctor's offices that are in network and ask to speak to a nurse. Then explain to the nurse your sitiation and ask if that particular doctor supports patients seeking WLS. Some doctors don't and will push for dieting (like you haven't already spent most of your life dieting). The nurse should be honest with you and this should save you alot of time. Also, if you don't like a particular doc, you can always go see another. Good luck and stay persistant!

Topic: Fort Lewis, WA! I need help finding a good PCP/PCM
Hello there,
I was wondering if anybody was or is stationed around Fort Lewis, WA
and can help me find an Off-Post Primary Care Physician/Manager?
I am looking for a PCM that does not judge overweight people, is very
friendly (sense of humor would be a plus, incl. Office staff), listens to
his/her patient and does not rush you (out of the office or into tests), if
you know a PCM/PCP like that would you mind giving me his or her Name and number, I really would appreciate it.
Thank you so much for your help and best wishes to all of you for the future.
Sandy
Topic: RE: How is everyone doing???
Hey Ya'll
I'm new to this board and basically killin' time out here at Ft Hood,TX. Did all my pre-ops, etc just waiting for my last meeting with the Dr. Can't it be the 30th yet?!
So far no problems with Tricare and everything looks good..I'll be at St David's in Austin when it all happens.
Love to here from other Army wives! If anyone at Ft Huachuca knows where Tonya McCourt is, can you give me an email, address, or phone?
Best of Wishes!!!

Topic: RE: My initial consult...
so happy for you...I am almost through with all my preop but my surgeon is leaving in Sept to go TDY for 3 months and his replacement won't be here until Dec...well heck my doc will be back then so I guess I am on hold. You shouldn't have any problems with Tricare. Since I am having mine done at the Army hospital I didn't have to wait for their approval. Looking forward to hearing how everything turns out for you!!
