Topic: RE: Does Tricare cover cosmetic surgery in the states?
Hi. The only thing that I know about cosmetic surgery is that it is not covered unless it is deemed medically necessary by your pcm and then your referred surgeon. Best of luck to you though. You can go on the Tricare web site though and look at what is/not covered. Hope that helps some. Kim P.

Topic: Lap Band at Ft Bliss TX
Some people had asked me about this and I couldn't find my way back to the post to reply so I made this post. Dr Schriver is here and doing open and laproscopic RNY...Dr Johson who did my surgery is deployed to Iraq and will be back in October. He will start doing the lap band in Jan. There is a waiting list for the WLS. 1st you make an appoint with your pcm and ask for a referal for the surgery. You will then get an appointment for a consult. If after the consult they think you are a good canidate then you go through all the regular procedures and get on the waiting list. Of course if you don't qulify they tell you and end of the road. It is a long process, it takes a few months to get in all the appointments and to do all the things prior to the surgery and then the wait can be anywhere form 6 months to a year. I was fortunate that I was able to be one of their 24 hour on call patients...this means if they have someone booked for a surgery and for some reason they can't do it....they will call you and say can you have surgery in 2 or 3 days...or in some cases 24 hours. I got a call late Monday night had surgery Thursday morning. Anyway...if you are thinking about this one of the requirments is that you attend so many wls support group meetings. these are held the 3rd thursday of the month from 4 to 6...start going now and sign in so you have one part already knocked out. If you guys have any more questions please feel free to email me. mimi

Topic: Does Tricare cover cosmetic surgery in the states?
I live in Germany but we're due to leave next summer. We were stationed in Fort Bragg before we came here and cosmetic surgery was done at Womack Army Medical Center for dependents. I'd like to get breast implants but I don't know if I should pay to get it done here or wait until we get back to the states. Tricare will not pay for dependents here in Germany to have the surgery. Does anyone have any information about military hospitals in the states performing cosmetic surgery on dependents? If you know of any, please give me the hospital name and contact information. I'd really appreciate it.

Topic: RE: DENTA COVERAGE AND TRICARE
Hey Karly, You( of Dh, that is) have to sign up for United Concordia...it's thru Tricare. I did it on line while hubby was doing his second Korea tour. I'm not sure what he had to do on his side, but I know you have to pay a little extra. It''ll just come out and you'll see it on his LES. It didn't take that long to get coverage. I'm sure it won't be a problem finding a provider right there in Radcliffe. (we were stationed at Knox 2x...I miss it) Best of luck to you...Also, I saw in the response before me that you were considering Lap...I had my surgery last month and I was told Tricare would only cover RNY but you have to be at least 100 Lbs overweight. I know someone who got turned down over being 4 Lbs short. So, again, good luck and if ya have any surgery questions or just wanna chat, feel free to shoot me an email. Vicki

Topic: Canadian Army wife
I am a Canadian Army Wife stationed in Petawawa, Ontario., Canada. I posted on here awhile back when i was pretty insane after surgery!!! I have read some of the posts and think how lucky some of you are that you actually have gatherings for people who have or want to go through this surgery right on your base!!!!!!!!!!!! I am very rare in these parts! I would love to get a call from someone who is getting this surgery in my area. I even told my Family Dr. if you know anyone considering it i would love to talk to them. I found the 1st month reaaaaaaalllllyyy hard mentally but i have climbed out of the black hole and feeling much better. I am now in my 5th week postop. My husbands chili is starting to taste gross I think he changes the recipe everytime and lets face it, how much chili can a person eat before it tastes like crap!? Anyways I think its great army wives can hook up right on their own bases for support. I am very envious! Jennifer
