Hey, somebody thought to put a messageboard, so I might as well start it. I twirled competitively from 1977 to 1983, now I was big, but didn't care. Now that twirling organizations have no age limit, I am going back. My State NBTA contest director is a dear friend and she is all for it. Was going to USTA regionals this year but am having plastic surgery after. Am going to do "boys" (mens) solo l baton, 2 baton, strut, dance twirl, flag and rifle. Have two nieces starting and by next year at least one of them will be contesting. Am planning on going to USTA nationals next year in Savannah Georgia, it is near my sister. I always say, the best way to find out your standing is enter nationals and see how you place! Walter

That is great that you have the ambition to go do that all again... I wish I did.. altho I did love to twirl when I was twirling...I still catch myself doing some moves... My teacher always wanted me to go into competition but didnt think that I was good enough.... course I have always had a very low self esteem....but i am working on that now....have a great day

I don't know how many people are still looking at this thread, but I came back from the USTA regionals this year (2006) and had to look up Walter Hayden. Just so you all know, he took third place and was absolutely INSPIRATIONAL. To all the folks who laughed at baton twirling as a category. Watching Walter perform put me in awe!! My son is just starting in baton twirling. Walter has me thinking that maybe I can do something too. We'll just have to see. Hope you get this walter and good luck with this and all your other goals. -- mike
