i cannot believe that baton twirling is actually listed as a group lol

i am now 51. i took 9 yrs. of lessons from about 5-14. twirled in alot of competiitons (against my will). when my dad builit our house, he even put in an asphalt square in the middle of our back yard so i could practice. that was when we lived in rockford ill. then we moved to appleton, wi. they had no baton twirlers, which i liked just fine. my dad took me to the high school and had me twirl for the band director and asked him if he had ever considered having a majorette. oh, the director loved it!! we were the appleton east patriots. he had a costume made for me that was beautiful and really accented my long thin legs. it was a blouse with long billowy sleeves under a red wool patriot coat with tails on it. and then there was white satin hot pants and red patent leather knee high boots. in the summer it was hot as hell and in the winter and fall parades and games, i froze my butt off. my fingers were so frozen that if i tried any tricks that left my hands i'd instanly drop it. we then got invited to perform in the 'orange bowl game' and parade. most of us had the flu so we couldn't even enjoy our days in the sun and fun. then it was the first year that disney world opened and they proclaimed it 'appleton wisconsin day'. i still have a couple of batons and sometimes, if i have a beer or 2, i'll entertain the neighberhoood. i was always surprised that my daughter never showed any interest in it. marty hoth

Hey, I just saw this message. I twirled and taught twirling in my high school band ( I was the director). I still have my batons, and I can still do some simple two baton tricks. No more illusions, though. LOL!!! I havd a bad back and could really hurt myself. Still, my son wants me to teach him!! He is seven.

wow, another twirler. i still have my batons also. and i've been known to have a beer or two and put on a show for the neighbors. i tried my damndest to teach my daughter to twirl and she even wanted to learn but never caught on. she's now 21. when i was younger and the kids were like 2 and 5, some of the neighbor ladies pd. me to teach their daughters the basics. teach your son. he probably has the talent. i'm glad you responded to my posting. i can't believe they have this as a forum. mardi

I cannot believe that it is on here either... I twirled from 5th grade to 11th grade... and I actually loved it.... my teacher always wanted me to do competitions but I always felt as if I werent good enough and told her no... but I also remember the hot summers practicing and the parades. I, too, had tried to teach my daughter but she was not interested... but when she got in high school she made the flag corpse...(then she ended up quitting school because she found out she was pregnant) which is something that I wanted to do but they told me that I couldnt because supposedly the flag went the oppisite direction... I really never found out for sure... And I ,too, still do tricks... it really impresses my brother when I get bored and pull out the broom and do a two-handed twirl ....lol...Well you all have a great night....

I too was a twirler.  From 5th grade through college.  I still have my batons in the garage, and on a rare occasion get them out and astound my boys!
