Concerns about approval

I'm 29 with a BMI of 53.3. I have my first consultation on May 31st. I don't really have a recent diet history as my daughter just turned one and I didn't really diet while pregnant. I've been overweight my entire lift and, although I don't have too many health problems, feel that this is my best chance to really get healthy. I've tried lots of things to lose weight previously, but don't have any real doctor-supervised "diets" and most of them were short-term since I wasn't very succesful. I have Aetna and I'm afraid they'll deny me because of this. I'm fine with them requiring me to do a 6-month or so "diet" prior to the surgery, but am scared they'll just deny me. Have any of you been in a similar situation? Also, what would any of you suggest I start doing now? I'm giving up soda, but still hanging onto my coffee. Should I be stocking up on vitamins and protein drinks? Should I be starting on them now? I know this is stuff the doctor can probably answer, but I think the advice from people who have been there is invaulable. Thank you all for being so honest and open about your experiences.

It's never too late to start! I went to my pcp and told her what I was trying to do and I started a diet and I go into the office once a week to weigh. Also join a tops or weigh****chers group, since that is also taken into consideration as a weight loss attempt. Myself, I am the worst patient since I am so impaitent!

Kelly, I'd make an appointment with your primary care doctor and start getting your weight and weight loss attempts documented. Good luck! Lori
