Had surgery yesterday

Well for the past couple weeks I have had pains in my tummy and side. They were just annoying at first, then became totally unbearable!! I went to my primary who told me he thought it was surgery related so I had to see my surgeon.. I called my surgeon who worked me in within hours- when I got down there I seen a new doctor at the office who decided within a couple minutes it was my gallbladder and made arrangements for me to be admitted.. They had me NPO for 24hrs, no water, no nothing!! AHHH!! But it calmed my gallbladder down and made surgery easier. When they did the ultrasound they found I had many many stones!! They were amazed I managed to wait as long as I did before seeking help.. Surgery was Friday, it was quick and pretty easy.. I was released 5 hours after surgery.. Im sore, tired, and a little cranky- but Im in much better shape then I was before surgery!! I now have 5 poke holes from my RNY surgery and 4 from my gallbladder surgery!! My poor tummy has been poked, prodded, and taken apart!! But now there isnt much left in there to get screwed up!! I was a little nervous when I went to the surgeons office and found out that I was going to be seeing someone new. But after meeting with this man for less then 2 minutes I had all the confidence in the world in him! His bedside manner is outstanding! He is very caring and makes sure to explain every little detail to you!! I just love the man! After surgery he went to speak with DH to let him know things went fine. He took pictures from my surgery out with him and showed my DH what was done, what was wrong, etc.. He spent over 10 minutes explaining everything.. he is outstanding!! I went back to the bariatric ward of the hospital! Same nursing staff I had when I had my RNY... Actually I was just 1 room down from where I was after RNY!! There was 1 new person up there on staff.. Her name was Livingston!! ( Yeah, LIVINGSTON!! Her parents had to have a sense of humor!! ) But this girl was about 115lbs soaking wet.. Just adorable.. And the best CNA ever.. She was there to take care of anything and everything!!! She was caring, helpful, and understanding.. She went out of her way to help out!! I cant say enough good things about the hospital and its staff!! Impressive all the way around!! Ohh wait.. I can say 1 bad thing!!! Now that Im a normal size, some of the equiptment on the bariatric ward is a little big for me!!! But I still think thats a plus and it makes things easier for those who just had surgery!! Im off to take some pain meds and get some sleep!!

Hi Amber, I was just thinking about you! I'm sorry you had to go through with this, but, it is so common for those of us who have had rapid weight loss. As far as I know, my gallbladder is hanging in there with no problems, so far. I'm so glad you had a good experience with your surgeon and your care!!! Hugs, Lori

greetings amber glad to hear you're doing well. i had my gallbladder out abt. 3 weeks ago. i too, had a different doctor than for my rny...(my ins. wouldn't pay for wls, so since i was paying for it myself, i went to a surgeon who would have been out of network, so i didn't want to go back to him for a surgery ins. WOULD pay for). but luckily, a surgeon has started a bariatric program in my city since i had mine, and i was able to get him for my gallbladder...i felt better about it then, since he at least understands what my insides are doing now! any way, the GB surgery went great for me. i had it on a tuesday, was back at work thursday. my rny was open -- the GB was my first experience with lap surgery -- geez, it was such a breeze! hope your recovery continues to go smoothly! (i'm not missing my GB at all!) deb -254 (10 lbs. to onederland!)

Glad they found the source of the problem, Amber I had lap gallbladder removal in February ... same problem ... stones and "slush" (whatever that is ). It's beggining to seem almost inevitable for post-ops ... sooner or later. Take some time for yourself, friend, and get well soon. Myra

Amber, I'm new here, but just wanted to say hey and I'm glad you are ok. I won't have to have my GB removed after RNY as it is already out. Happened after losing weight on ATKINS about 8 years ago. Keep feeling better! Julie
