My boyfriend wants to get married? OMG I am 42 and have never been married and he bought the ring today? And we went and got license!!! I have been with him for five years. I guess we might as well get married.. I know nothing about getting married. Help!! How do you plan a wedding? Is the wedding ring without the band the same as an engagement ring?

Hello Rie Rie, Congratulations on your engagement!!! Yes, a wedding ring without the band is an engagement ring (at least mine was). Take care, Diana

congrats on you engagement. The wedding ring without the band is your engagement ring. As far as planning the wedding just think about what you want, how much you want to spend and what's important to you. A lot of stuff you can now do yourself or you can take advantage of friends and family that has talents. When I got married I don't think I spent $300 and had a beautiful wedding. I spent $30 on material and my cousin made the dress (I told her what I wanted), I found some beautiful bonded paper with matchin envelopes and created some very pretty and professionally looking invitations. Our church don't charge for services so the wedding and reception was at the church. Our friend did the decorations (we paid for the materials). Another friend made the flowers (we paid for materials). And family and friends cooked. Another friend took pictures as, we had 2 video tapes and all of the help was done in lieu of gifts. It worked out perfect. We had a wishing well reception and everybody had a good time. Good luck and relax. Remember it's your day and you can do whatever you want to. Lurnia

Hi Marie, I just wanted to "chime-in" and wish you some congrads on your upcoming marriage. You can make this as fancy or as simple as you want. My hubby and I opted to go the simple route and elope to the court house..then guilt set in and we eloped with our parents. It seemed like we did the right thing..and not long afterwards, we realized that our family and friends were very hurt that we didn't include them in on our happiness. A month later we ended up having 2 open houses (one in my husbands hometown) with fancy invitations..flowers, cake etc. it was very simple and intiment. Sometimes I wish we would had just invited everybody and had one ceremony and make everybody happy..the last thing we wanted was to hurt anybody's feelings. Well, that was 25 years ago....looking for the next family wedding..maybe my almost 24 year old son..oh yeah, I guess he needs a gf first right??? No pressure from good ole momma right?? HugsGinger

CONGRATULATIONS MARIE!!!! I wish I could help you with the wedding but my husband and I went low key. I was 18 and only two weeks out of high school we drove to S.C. got the license and the next day drove back and got married. It was cheap and no one even knew we did it. No fuss, no muss and we were very happy..as a matter of fact we'll be married 12 yrs this August. We did have a reception type thing when my parents found out..low key some friends some gifts some cake no biggy. GOOD LUCK and I can't wait to hear all about your big day!!! CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN!!! GREAT BIG HUGS, Jamie
