Please Help! Surgeon Referral Needed for BMI 88+ 650 LBS!

Hello everyone! I'm currently in the process of trying to help a friend of mine save his life! He's 650+ pounds with the usual occurances of co-morbidities with regards to carrying this much weight. He has decided after seeing myself and a few others in our social circle to pursue the process of gastric bypass, but I fear I may not be able to find a surgeon to help him. From the small amount of research I have done, many hospitals limit the weight of the patient in the operating room to 500 pounds, and many surgeons don't want to battle the odds when trying to save someone who is so much a prisoner in their own body. Thus the reason for my post. If any of you have any suggestions, doctors, personal experiences with doctors who are willing to take a chance and save someone in this weight range, I would greatly appreciate any info sent my way. If you've been down this path, you know how discouraging it is to have doors closed in your face, and at times we take one no to mean everyone will say no, so I am trying to weed through and find a doctor willing to consider helping my dear friend. He's such a wonderful human being, and I know that this surgery can save his life, as it has saved my own. We are located on the East Coast, so any doctors in the NJ, NY and PA area, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all your help and support. I anxiously await your input!

Dr. OH in Auburn NY is a pioneer of the open RNY. He has been doing it for over 30 years and has only lost 1 patient in 2000. He deals with very large clients. You can find him on my profile by clicking on his name. Hope this helps. Jennifer
