There's a new kid in town...
Hello all. My name is Jen..I am new to this site. I have my consult with my surgeon of choice on 6-1-2006. I am married and the mother of 2 great girls. ( One will be 16 this year!)
I have been heavy my whole life and now as I am approaching 35, I am ready. At least I think I am. Most of my family is encouraging, but my best friend feels that it is too drastic. I am 5'6 and 393. I have done all diets imaginable.
Have any of you have the LAP RNY? I would love to meet people who have been through it, or getting ready to. Thanks for your time.
Hey there Jen!
Welcome to the board.
Make sure you ask a lot of questions at the consult. Be super honest with your surgeon so that he knows what you are expecting and he can be honest about his expecations about the surgery. You should be completely comfortable with your surgeon.
Omg, a 16 yr old girl. You have your hands full. I've three boys that keep me pretty on my toes, none of them have hit puberty age yet thankfully but its coming around the bend.
If you have been heavy your whole life, its not drastic, its the next logical step in fixing a problem. It could be that if she is heavy she is worried about losing an eating buddy, if she is thin she might be worried about not being the cuter of the two anymore?
I had Lap RNY on 3/8/05. I've since lost between 150 and 153 lbs depending on the day and the time of the month.
If you have any questions feel free to ask away.

Welcome Jennie,
I had the lap rny on May 23, 2005. I'm down 148.5 lbs. I am healthier and happier than I've been in many years.
This surgery can be dangerous, but, so can super morbid obesity. I finally got to the point (I'm 45 years old) that I just didn't like the looks of my future. My parents are both super morbidly obese and have tons of health problems. My health held out pretty well until I turned 40, then I got breast cancer, then one thing after another. I'm so glad I did this. I was ready. I think being mentally ready is vital for this to be a success.
I'm willing to talk anytime.

Hi Jen,
I'm pretty new too, about 2 months of reading and lurking. I'm 49, 3 grown kids, wonderful husband.
I'm having lap RNY on July 17. I weigh 434.
I run between being terrified and being so excited I can't hardly wait. I researched and read everything I could find and I feel well informed. Most of my naysayers have backed off, and everyone *****ally loves me is all for this, as they are all worried about my future if I don't lose some weight.
Feel free to email me.

Two years ago I was 5 foot 6 inches and 398 lbs. I had the open Rny because my doctor would only do lap RNY with people who had a lower bmi than i had. When I went for my 1st doctors visit I could hardly walk into the doctors office. I had trouble putting on my shoes the nurse felt sorry for me and tied them for me. The doctors office is 88 miles from my house and Thursday I am going to ride my bicycle over there for a support group meeting. Yes I do feel better and it is a miricale. I have three boys one will be 16 in July One 18 and the little one turned 14 on Sunday. On Saturday The 16 year old and I took a little 35 mile bike ride. The 16 year old is in good shape he plays football, track and wrestles. The fun part was I could keep up with him Of course I put him on a slower bike.
