I had lap RNY on Nov 28, 2005. I've lost 135 lbs so far. My life is so much better. I love to show people the scars from the surgery as they are so tiny. I think this is the best thing I've done for myself. Ask lots of questions, do lots of research. Most importantly take all of your vitamins as they are very important!!!!!!!!!

Diane, I will. I have done alot of research and I feel like my eyes will pop out. There seem to be alot of naysayers too....gets discouraging.... I read the good boards and the bad....now I need to meet with the surgeon to really determine what to do. Thanks for your support... Jen

I want to tell you to ignore the naysayers...but that is so much easier than done. Before I had surgery I joined complication groups, and read everything. I felt strongly positive I knew EVERYTHING. Well the one complication I got I had no clue about. I lost feeling from waist down. My regular pushed me off to a neurologist. That neurologist procrastinated. My surgeon sent me to a different neurologist and between the 2 of them it was realized very quickly my B1 level was bottoming. Now I'm fine. I would do this surgery 10 times again to enjoy the life I live now. Bottom line what i'm trying to say is - read everything, listen to the naysayers, and the yaysayers and then do what you feel is best for you....be confidant in your decision and you will be fine. diane

hi jennie: welcome to the board. i'm so glad you found us. i'm also married and the mom of two great girls. one is 19, the other 15. i've also been heavy most of my life. my high weight was over 450 and i'm 5'9". i had lap rny on 2/8/5 and have lost almost 200 pounds thus far. i had also done almost every diet imaginable. was told many years ago to have wls but ended up deciding against it until '05. my life had become less than tolerable and i really felt it was either surgery or an early death. since surgery, i'm feeling like i've been given a second chance at life and am trying to make the most of it. anytime you want to contact me, feel free to do so. the more questions you ask, the better you'll feel about how informed you are and that will make you more confident with your decision. hope to hear from you soon. dorthe

Welcome to the board. I am 42 and the mother of two an 18 yr old boy, (and I didnt realize how stupid I was until he came along). And a 17 yr old girl ( she is a really good kid.) And I am getting married for the first time on June 24. So I have been busy making wedding arrangements. I had open RNY on Feb. 28. Now three months out. I have my three month check up tomorrow. So I will see exactly how much I am down. I think betweeen 50 to 55 pds. As far as your friend thinking this surgery is drastric, well yeah it is but so is being SMO. There are chances of problems and even death but there is more chances of problems being 393 pds. I was so miserable. I wish I had had it done yrs ago. well got to go. bye love marie And bye the way this place is awsome and has great supportive people.

Hi Jennie, I am having lap RNY sometime this summer...still waiting for the call with a date. You may (if you haven't already) want to visit the PA board too. There are alot of people there that have had lap RNY and there is also a support group that meets in Harleysville (Montgomery County) once a month. It shouldn't be too long of a ride for you. We actually have people come from NJ, the Pocono's and the Scranton area that drive down for the meetings. It's really a great group of people. Heather
